It’s good news. But the police commissioner is from Nassau county PD so she might not have the same feelings on the subject that other NYC police commissioners have had.

Great. Now all they need to do is designate the law to take effect September 2022 and not have a training course until April 2023.

My understanding is that some licensing officials are excepting firearms training courses that were already DCJS approved like the armed security guard course.

That's not how it's supposed to work. If they are doing this, then it nullifies the whole law that was written. In reality, they could get in trouble.

Will they? Probably not.

Think of if this way: I took an armed security guard class that was say 8 hours and I get my permit because there is no such thing as a DCJS 16+2 hour pistol training class. Now you try to get it, and you need to wait to take this non-existent class, thus holding up your permit.

It's either you do it right or you don't do it at all.

Regardless, holding up a due process that is constitutionally applied is unconstitutional.

So where is the 16+2 hour 1st Amendment Freedom of Speech training?

They're not changing a thing! Any training requirement as a prerequisite condition in order to exercise a Right is unconstitutional, or as noted in Bruen, a multi-tiered system of hurdles to support a defacto denial regimen. Want to highly suggest a course be taken? Subsidize citizens who do? Sure ... But no attaching artificial encumbrances in order to obtain "permission" to exercise the Right. Seems they keep ignoring the suggestions from the SCOTUS to follow the 43 States that don't obfuscate 2A Rights... They keep dreaming up their own path and that's not going to end well.

Anyways...

Excuse for what. The instructors at the LEOSA/security requal were talking about it. They were told what is in the works as they are instructors for whatever program comes up. But things can change.

I forgot to add. Some of you on this forum have, by law, met the training requirement. If you got firearms training in the military, your training requirement has been met.

Anyone screaming preferential treatment or second class citizen stuff on that exception ?

How about my hunters ed, hours of range time, help teaching firearms safety classes, etc??

I guess my 15-20k rounds a year don’t count along with all that time...
