NYPD licensing is getting slower and slower

I applied for my CCW back in July 2023 and it's still in the investigation phase.

A friend of mine applied on November 2023 and he already was approved. He never had any permits prior to this. One would think that it would be easier to vet me for my CCW since I currently hold a premise and Rifle/Shotgun permit already.

I also had applied for my premise permit renewal once they sent me the email back in late December and submitted on January 2. They still haven't approved it. My premise permit expired on February 9 (people's permits expire on their birthday).

I asked someone in the license division if my current permit was extended until I was issued my renewal. They said no, and I could not use my handguns until I got my renewed permit and that I am to secure my handguns and not to remove them from the safe until I receive my renewed permit.

These guys are absolutely the worst!

I've also been unable to pick up my Glock 21 Gen4 I purchased because they haven't renewed my permit and haven't mailed me the purchase authorization.

The majority of the people who work in the licensing division are civilians. And the officers who work in licensing aren't in any rush to leave. It's a cushy administrative job.

One of the officers I used to see on the regular in the old area i used to work in ended up at licensing. Believe me, he's in no rush to leave now. Indoors, ass in a seat all day, don't have to deal with shitheads or skells. Does an 8-4, who's better than him?

Losing personnel is absolutely no reason to validate delaying application approval. This should be handled by law, like most locales which prescribe a defined period for response by the authority having jurisdiction. This is a RIGHT, not convenience! Not a privilege being bestowed! Although that is the way it's treated.

SCOTUS has defined the Right to Defense in one's home, I would NEVER have all my weapons locked up, inaccessible or inoperable, regardless of any local requirements. That is utterly ridiculous and smack in the face of that ruling. Additionally, I would allude to seeking legal representation to handle my application going forward if not responded to in an appropriate time frame. 6 months MAX! Deny me, but respond! As noted in Bruen as well, that ridiculous and capricious requirements like Good Cause, etc., are just bullshit.

I have heard that upgrading your permit for everyone is taking longer than new applications for CCW’s. Makes no sense but they suck.
I think it’s hilarious that they told you to keep your guns locked up and not to remove them because they are inept. You can’t possess them without a valid permit so they told you to break the law.

I once asked for a status on my CCW permit because it's been in the investigation phase for over six months and I was replied back in all caps letters paragraph essentially raging at me. I simply replied back with a "Thank you".

I'm sorry you and others have to put up with this bullshit. At least a personnel issue would explain delays and make it more understandable. This kind of shit seems like it's on purpose.

Finally got a hold of someone on the phone this morning.

Apparently one hand doesn't know what the other does there; no surprise really.

They didn't send me an email which acknowledges that my renewal application was received. They sent it this morning, in this email, it states that my current license remains active while my renewal is being processed. I'm glad I got someone who gives a fuck about their job for once.

I expect a lot is delay by design.

With computers, records and other info they need would/should be available within minutes, or even a few seconds. They just like to discourage, fuck with law abiding citizens looking to get their permits.

Almost a month since I purchased my Glock 21 Gen4 and still haven't been able to pick it up because they haven't mailed me my new permit and pink PA form.

Premise permit still hasn't been renewed. I uploaded my renewal packet on 1/2.

CCW permit still hasn't been assigned an investigator.

Glad people got theirs when they did. It took one of my buddies over 12 months from start to finish. One of them even has a special carry permit for NYC. No names, uses, classifications or locations disclosed here due to the monitoring in effect for the forum. Just hang in there....

Well on 3/20 they finally approved my premise permit renewal, only took them three months. I have yet to receive the new permit in the mail, and I'm hoping they will send me my purchase authorization at the same time. Due to their delays, my next purchase (every 90 days) was pushed back over 90 days now.

Still no word on my CCW which still shows investigating. I don't know how much "investigating" they need to do when I only needed to submit another two character reference letters and my CCIA class certificate on top of the documents used for the premise permit.

The delay definitely seems intentional.

Received my renewed premise permit in the mail yesterday, unfortunately there was no purchase authorization with it and the new card didn't have my new purchase added to it.

No update on CCW status either.

In other news, a majority of US states do not require any type of permit or registration to purchase, own, and carry concealed a handgun. Just sayin..

Don't know if it was a smart idea or not, but after it getting close to a year with no further progression on the status of my NYC/NYS CCW I opted to get a lawyer involved - Mirel Fisch. I read on one of the NY Gun Reddits that she was able to get movement on other applications.

What prompted this was, I called today to get an update on my application and see if I had been assigned an investigator. Come to find out that after 9 months I still haven't been assigned one.

The woman I spoke with didn't understand how other applicants who submitted later than me were already processed/approved and why mine still hadn't been assigned an investigator. There was also some confusion as to why I was waived the fingerprinting process. I had explained to her I was told previously because I have two existing gun permits in the form of Premise and my Rifle/Shotgun that I was being waived, she verified this with her Sergeant.

Not even a full day goes by after the letter was sent to the Licensing Division from my lawyer and an Investigator calls me and schedules me for my interview.

Went for my "interview" today at 10am. My "interview" was nothing more than a stupid questionnaire that is exactly like the one I filled out for my Premise permit. It's basically the same questions on the 4473 form.

My Investigator was very nice and apologetic for the the delay with my application. I'm not sure if it was genuine or not, mainly because I had to get a lawyer involved.

Faster than I could get home from the shit hole that is Manhattan my application was approved.

For some reason they always think I'm an NYPD retiree. I guess I carry myself like a cop, who knows.
