NYPD Officer Brian Mulkeen, an almost seven-year veteran of the force, was shot and killed during an arrest in the Bronx early Sunday morning.

Mulkeen, 33, was on patrol at the Edenwald Houses on east 229th Street around 12:30 a.m. when he and two other officers stopped a man for questioning.

Most confusing "journalism" I've ever read. Officers gun went off 3 times and the suspects gun was never fired? So the officer shot himself until dead?

A prime example of criminals following laws on the books to prevent gun violence. Sounds like we need some more laws.

My mother worked there for over 20 years until 2015 and I grew up in Edenwald really sad. R.I.P to the officer and prayers to his family

The reporting, as always, is terrible and/or intentionally written to leave open the thought that the cop shot himself.

The perp got his gun and shot him before his partners caught up. Partners shot the perp. I’m just waiting to find out it the perp dropped his gun or tried to use it before grabbing the cop’s.

Reported today, the officer was hit by friendly fire.

There are conflicting reports which are normal. Some are saying it was friendly fire. I don’t know yet.

Remember that roughly 7 to 15% of cops are shot and killed by their own gun ( or another cop’s)that they lose in a struggle

My son knew Brian in HS. He went to Monroe Woodbury HS. Funeral is in our town.

Regardless of the circumstances and poor reporting this is sad.
