NYS AR Style Rifle Help

Hi, so purchasing a Sr-Style rifle for the first time. I understand their is two options in NYS. Either have a fixed magazine, or detachable magazine with attaches and features that comply with NYS. I want to go the route of fixed magazine and any feature I want. I found a FFL dealer who will transfer the gun over to me.

The problem I am facing, is the gun I like for the price and value comes with a detachable magazine and has no options to come with a fixed. Any suggestions on what I should do? Should I ask him if I buy a separate fixed magazine could he install it, make it legal, then transfer it?

This would be the proper route, I believe. If he doesn't make it compliant before the transfer, it would be an illegal sale unless you're law enforcement.

You could technically take transfer of the lower by itself with no upper. With no action, it can't be a NYS AW. Make it a fixed magazine by whatever method you've chosen, and then put it together. Voila! NY legal.

A couple of cheap ways to fix the magazine. Check with your receiving ffl that they can do it for you. Worst case scenario you buy a safe mod or something and throw it on when you pick it up. Replacing the mag button is maybe a 5 minute affair. Also go with a lancer or pmag.
On the other hand, I am a big proponent of your first should be featureless. Shouldn’t be a big deal for most gunsmiths. The biggest issue is getting a thread protector welded or the muzzle cut and crowned.

Buy a fixed mag button fro DD’s ranch and have it installed before you leave the shop. It’s very easy.

better yet I see you’re in Buffalo just go to DD’s ranch or the Hamburg gun show and buy one from him. He’s a descent guy.

I’m local what shop did you call?
