NYS bill S6033 requiring gun owners to get liability insurance reintroduced

Something tells me this one might pass this go around. I think NYS sees that they will get most of the CCIA stoppers away so they may push this through IMO. I think this would be overturned eventually as well but it will stand for a while and make an even larger registry of gun owners.

If the state was smart they would act as the sole agent for this that way they can just make up whatever fee schedule they want If you are violating rights and laws whats another couple?
As written in the bill "Firearm", Is that the NY definition of the word or the generic use? Its so hard to keep them straight.

None. That’s the point. Can’t have gun without insurance. Can’t get insurance. Ergo, confiscation or at the very least a de facto ban on purchases.

There will be companies that issue the liability insurance. Don’t forget if your charged with a crime the insurance likely will not kick in and it’s for accidents only. With NYS requiring you to lock up your guns for anyone under 18 at your home this is a big win for the insurance companies. They will likely charge you a fee per gun and they will make money off this for sure. Cars are likely a larger burden and cause insurance companies to pay out more than guns will because most gun deaths or injuries are from illegal guns.
I guess we will see what happens. They have to pass it first.

I want legislators, and officials to be personally liable for the consequences decisions, actions and words not just when they are active/in office but in the long term if hardships come from their poor judgement.

Agreed. I just think it will pass this time around because NYS has stepped up its game and the SC has indicated it may slap down more of NYS laws.
I agree with the above poster that they should be able to be held liable for their actions and the laws they pass but more importantly at this point they should be able to be held liable for violating our civil rights by passing laws they know violate the constitution and will be overturned. By then passing these laws and stripping us our rights for even 6 months or two years it’s a violation of our rights. They get mad when the cops violate someone’s right for a few minutes or a few hours but they can violate ours for 100 years?

Bills are automatically reintroduced every session. I haven't seen any indication this will be one will get voted on. I believe the ones we need to watch for are related to dealer liability, lead ammo, and slush fund bills for elected's friends back home.
