These fuckers are banning gas hook ups in new buildings as we knew would happen but they are putting a fee on natural gas and gasoline to give us rebates to go electric. They will also provide $200 million to low income families to winterize and convert to electric. I’m so sick of NYS it’s not even funny.

If anyone doesn't know that one, as I understood low income housing would be built in any subburb and town across the State over ruling local city/town/burb building codes. all ready did, The Escape Pod is totally independent. Except for the furnace and water heater are heated by Propane. And 9 gallons of propane can last me 6 weeks, and thats not rationing it. Thats using it everyday. If I am more judicial with my use, I could easily go 8 to 10 weeks. I have four places around the country where I can get propane for less than $3/gallon. One in Tennessee, one near Tuscan Az, and another up near Page Az and last but not least, one near Fredericksburg Va.

The cabin is completely offgrid, totally independent. Heated by a wood fired stove, and the water heater is fired off propane and two D-cell batteries. The fridge and stove are also propane fired.

Just be aware, if you do go offgrid, you will be going electric. and one more thing, check with the power company and your town, They many not allow an offgrid solar system WITH battery backup. They may require you to go grid-tie only.

I generally tell people to go solar, and after they pass inspection, THEN add a transfer switch and batteries, and don't tell no one, until you have to sell. because with solar and no battery back up, when the power goes out, you're still going to be in the dark too. So whats the point if you can't have the lights on, and the furnace working, but you have solar, during the day????

Propane is a natural gas so no, no new hook ups allowed for propane either. I wonder what will happen if you need a new tank or a new line? Will they make you convert then.
