I will not turn tail and run. I will not face a coward in the mirror. I will be called many things by those who lack the strength to stand upon their homes, and I will shrug it off. I will not be moved.
We moved last month. Not because I'm a coward, but rather because the reduced taxes and lower cost of housing/living make our retirement goals more achievable. There is no way our property taxes would have been cut by 75% in the foreseeable future.
The better (not great) political landscape is a bonus. I also feel better knowing my tax dollars are no longer supporting the radical leftist policies of the NYS politicians.
My comments were written in response to a general question about how standing and fighting were working out. Leaving for various reasons doesn’t mean anyone has given up, nor that I think they have, Staying in NY does not equal standing and fighting. For those who do choose to stay, and work toward change, I will say this: this is my home, I will fight for it, and I will not be chased from its borders. Again, though, I’m not saying that others who choose to leave for myriad other reasons are cowards, unwilling to fight, weak or quitters. It’s hard to be any of those things if you were unwilling to stand and fight at the beginning. And fighting itself can mean so many things. Have a great life of peace, health and happiness, wherever you end up. That’s all I ask for anyone. And great beer.
