I am curious to how this works with the new trend to have so many "not really a doctor" practicing. I would only assume there is an actual MD somewhere at my primary care, but I have never seen them. Its all NP's and PA's. Cheaper by far and good enough for most I would assume.

Look at the criteria. It’s “ adjusted” for cost of living compared to doctor’s salaries. The doctors are working in one of the most litigation states in America so the payoffs and insurance for malpractice are much higher.
It does not measure the “ education “ benefit of working in NY hospital—- remember that a lot of the doctors in NY are in their residency or learning their specialty. A large number are just starting their careers in NY then move on to other states. It schews the numbers.

Myself .. I have a good GP and have had good surgeons in the past. My father did have a surgeon that should never been practicing . He indirectly started the line of events that led to my fathers death. For the most part we have seen very good medical professionals. My sister lives in N Carolina and has seen many Dr's at Duke and after 25 years of seeing them one shakes their head over things that we think they missed or misdiagnosed . I believe good and bad people are in every profession .

Based on the medical staff I know of and the good Dr's that left. I wouldn't have any procedures done in this state.

My coworkers nephew who's 11 just had a biopsy done. They're waiting to hear which type of cancer it is. He had an x-ray done 3 months ago at the local hospital and they said there was nothing wrong. He had another x-ray 2 weeks ago at a different hospital. You can clearly see the mass in the first one and the second one showed that it's grown from golf ball size to softball size. The tech that feed the first x-ray didn't catch it even though it's visible. Now because of that miss the mass has spread and hell need a rib removed

The article is not about good or bad doctors in NYS the article is about the state being good and attractive to doctors to come practice here.

The number of these just starting out doctors is disproportionately high in New York as compared to other states due to the higher number of medical schools and specialist hospitals in New York a compared to other states It completely schews the number . Just check how many medical schools are in Manhattan alone. It’s more than many states combined. These same doctors then go to other states because permanent doctor jobs in New York have very fierce competition. The doctors surveyed in those other states are now experienced and trained and aren’t residents. Their lean years are already behind them and it has nothing to do the economics of that state but where they are in life.

My BIL here in Az was having trouble swallowing in February 2020, just before the Plandemic. We tried to convince him to go to a doc. His best friend, who happens to be a female Veterinary surgeon ( on a side note, is stunningly hot, and 30 years younger, they are only very good friends, more like brother and sister) finally convinced him to go see a doctor. the first doc said " get you affairs in order, you'll be dead in 6 months. Dr Vet's dad is a retired thoracic surgeon, pulled some string and got the BIL into another Doc in Phoenix, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. The new doc did some surgery, cut out some shit, and last month was cancer free.
never ever take any doc's word that things are really bad, sometimes, they can fix it. you just have to find the right doc

i gave up on NY doctors when i called one taking new patients ..

i have a sore throat , hurts to swallow ..

lady says ok and i make appointment and i show up and check in ..

the lady says we have a problem .. the Doc is OBGYN

so what .. its my throat ..

i got turned away ..

so then i went to urgent care in Hornell NY .. ..

all went to plan.. nurse seen me and i got the cillin for the swollen glands ..

then the Fucking Insurance company wouldn't pay because the lady was RN and not a DOC ..

and don't get me started on cortisone injections and poison ivy in winter time and wood stoves .. lol ..

i would rather go to a VET then a human hospital these days ..

Yes, the conversation morphed. And I am explaining that the article isn’t an accurate depiction of the situation. NY has an abnormal amount of residencies compared to other states. That is the “ suck” time for doctors . So if 30% of doctors in NY are in their “ suck” time, and other states only have 10% in the same situation. Those states will poll better. NY has absolutely no trouble filling doctor positions and there is extremely high competition for those jobs. For the poll to truly reflect the situation, it should exclude residents or doctors learning their specialities.

well in NY, my PA of 37 years retired, my Doc of 20 years retired, both said, Im just getting out of the business. My NEW primary was a Doctor from India, but my new PA is not bad looking, but didn't seem that confident in what she was doing.

Now I have to wait until I get to South Dakoda in order to meet my new primary doc. Hope SHE is as good as my original doc.

Again, it’s the criteria. Highest liability insurance. Highest civil suit payouts are in there but it’s not in their methodology of ranking . Scroll down but look at what is measured in their point scale .
Starting salaries, retention of medical residents, etc. A large number of residents leave because there are not enough jobs for them after residency in addition to wanting to leave for a greener pasture.

Of course medical malpractice insurance and payouts are going to higher in NY than most flyover states. That also changes the results of their methodology.
The competition is fierce in NY because of all the hospitals and medical schools. And the speciality hospitals. A google search only shows 12 in all of the state of California.There are 13 are in NYS. Six of which appear to be in walking distance of each other ( admittedly some are a long walk)
All of those “ residents “ will throw the number off.
