NYS Styrofoam Ban

Not sure if it’s related or not, but wegmans switched their egg containers from styrofoam to recycled cardboard and it sucks. Flimsy isn’t even the right word. Pick them up with two hands now.

On top of that, I've had more eggs FREEZE IN THE REFRIGERATOR in those cardboard trays, vs. the ones in the styrofoam trays.

Walked out of wegmans yesterday only to see 3 face rags on the ground. I started to yell we needed help there are infectious rags on the ground! We are all going to die! Clean up in the parking lot needed! The guy kitty corner from me had stopped getting into his car when I started yelling, we made eye contact and he, no mask, grinned and gave me a head nod. Even got a smile from the wife who was on her first day not masking.

eggs shouldn't really be in the refrigerator .. but is usa law grrr..

Good for you. I volunteer with youth through my church. I’m glad to see you’re exempt because I heard the cardboard ones are much more expensive. Unfortunately I’m sure rather soon suppliers will no longer carry the styrofoam ones because it just won’t be worth the space for them. I would recommend trying to find a secondary source through the mail or something if possible.

Probably blood, etc, soaking through the tray and contaminating other things that come in contact? Just a guess. But, as I stated above, get rid of it. All of it. I remember waxed butcher paper, and it worked great. It was also a lot easier to open than the dumbass styro trays enclosed in Stretch-Tite. As far as I’m concerned, a lot of the uses we see for plastic fall into the “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should“ catagory. Most of it we don’t need.

The "generation" that has chosen the word "sustainability" as a hill to die on, it the same generation that has never had to sleep in a hot sticky bed without airconditioning, probably see's dialing a rotary phone as too much physical effort, has to go to a gym to sweat, spends twenty seconds in the cold, walking from the exit to their car or Uber driver, carries a baba to hydrate everywhere they go and insists on a lactose-free double decaf espresso late' with extra sugar-free sweetener just so they can take a selfie holding the cup. They have never had to butcher meat and will become totally dumbfounded when they don't see it wrapped in plastic on a styrofoam platter. HOW DID IT GROW?

They are so smart I call them dicfor's. Because they don't know what a dic is for and which bathroom was designed to accommodate said appendage. Yeah! I am supposed to listen to them because they have been "educated" by the Department of Education.

I can't tell you how many times I have been to the transfer station, in my former county, witnessing trucks dumping recyclables along with trash in the same semi trailer loading bays. Once I even saw bags, and bags, of soda n beer cans dumped in with a load of shingles. A friend of mine who passed a few years ago, ran his own roll offs. He always had told me, before I even saw it, they don't recycle. We just pay more for needless services.

This really sucks because there is so much energy in discarded plastics. Plastic plus pyrolysis equals liquid fuel. No wonder they want it in the land fills.

...and they created "jobs" through their "green" Legislation. Broken window economics.
When I live in MO. there was only a deposit on "reusable" bottles. Aluminum cans had no deposit but people would crush them and save them in their garage. When the bag was full you could sell it by the pound to an entrepreneur, not a Govt Sponsored entity. Move to NY and realized the stupidity of it all. Grocery Stores now had to "hire" people to handle the bottles and cans. Today they have been replaced by machines that we have to feed. What do the machines do? Break the glass bottles.

While I agree with it all, the crushing of cans and plastics, and breaking of glass is on the corporations getting paid for a job. This is making space for less transporting costs by efficient transport.

When I worked at a few restaurants, we used the same cutlery, boards and what not to cut up fish, beef, veal/pork, and even veggies without washing them in between. Especially during the summer, they'd just sit there fermenting until they got washed up for the night. It adds flavoring... lol

Biggest thing is making sure you actually cook the food... when in doubt, keep it in for a minute or two longer.

No, we didn't use the same boards for salads in case anyone was wondering.

I fine with getting rid of styrofoam. I hate styrofoam packaging, plates & cups.
The only place I find it useful is exterior insulation panels on a house or foundation insulation.

Most think that’s ok, but fish only need to be cool up to about 125 and pork about 140, but chicken and beef are higher. That is a concern. I’m carful with factory prepared meats, but if I’m fishing all day I’ll just rinse them off or a quick sanitize then eat lunch. I do t trust what others do.

Never have been a sickly person. I don't get sick all that often and when I do it's rarely very bad.
