My prediction for what it is worth is that SCOTUS does smack this down. They ask the very obvious question: Why do celebrities, judges, ex-cops get to carry but not everybody else? The defendants will also have an exceptionally difficult time proving that the proliferation of licensed individuals will appreciably increase illegal shootings. I'm positive they will try to mesh non-criminal, licensed carriers with hoodlums and how more guns are increasing shootings but it isn't a reasonable argument since the two groups could not be further apart.
As for permitting I expect that the permits will be granted but take laughably long periods of time. There's no chance SCOTUS extends to say constitutional carry is a thing, so this will be permits. They need to pre-empt and give the state/county a reasonable maximum amount of time (90 days?). Some of the 1-2 year stuff I read about in some counties is damn near a ban.
I think we can expect a 5:4 or a 6:3. Hopefully none of the conservative judges (which Roberts is not one of) doesn't leave the court before ruling and put it in jeopardy.

Truth but I think this was always the matter of "oops we forgot to" kind of thing; I have no doubt that NY lawmakers will think of all the ways they can fuddle this up and that is certainly one of them. Of course, it's a very difficult thing to enforce without metal detectors and if you actually need to use your gun to defend yourself you're unlikely to worry about whatever misdemeanor is associated with carrying in a store you shouldn't have been in.
There is also a bill pending for new training and firearms proficiency with a two year required renewal.

We know that California style restrictions will come here... Can they ban guns that they find are in common use... Maybe try to anyway. If we win this case will registration still be in force... I believe that is for certain. If they cannot ban the gun then Type of ammo (hollow points ). Amount one can buy in a month... Limit to 1 mag/month per gun.. That's a good one ... Try to have background checks for ammo... Perhaps needing an Ammo card .. One can own a handgun without a permit but you need a permit to but ammo. . Now one will have a paper weight without ammo. ,, These folks will not stop ... That we can be sure of.

Some folks in North Carolina just applied for carry permits. Had to shoot 20-30 rounds into a man size target 6-8 feet away

I am more concerned when they brought up “ sensitive areas “ in the argument and used a public street corner ( Times Square) or public transportation like the subway in the hearing .
I see them doing what they attempted to do in Chicago like 1000 ft of a school, church, hospital being declared “ sensitive areas as well as restaurants that serve alcohol( even if you aren’t drinking ) etc.

Text, History and Tradition – Not Interest Balancing – At the Heart of Supreme Court’s New York Gun Rights Case
Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral argument in New York State Rifle & Pistol v. Bruen, a challenge to New York State’s discretionary concealed carry licensing scheme, which requires New Yorkers to demonstrate to the satisfaction of a government bureaucrat that they have some sort of special, individualized, good cause before being permitted to carry a firearm for self-defense.
Since Heller and McDonald were decided in 2008 and 2010, the only time that a Second Amendment case has been before the U.S. Supreme Court on the merits was two years ago in New York State Rifle & Pistol v. New York. Unfortunately, that case eventually was determined by the Court to be moot, after the city quickly moved to repeal its offending law, in a deliberate scheme to avoid a certain Supreme Court loss.
Justice Barrett’s addition to the Court, replacing Justice Ginsburg, has heightened the hopes of the gun community that the Supreme Court will bring the lower federal courts into line by finally requiring compliance with the Heller and McDonald decisions. We are optimistic that, with six Republican President-appointed justices, the Court will give gun owners a win in this case, but it’s entirely uncertain what any potential victory might look like.
Often, not much can be learned from oral argument, but a few observations should be made.
