I know of 2 guys who had their cars broken into and their handguns stolen when they went into a store that would not allow them to carry their weapon in the store. If you think about it, it is easy to observe someone as they go through the motions, taking their weapon from it's holster, unloading it, putting it into a lock box and then securing the box somewhere in the car. They had both used a cable lock, which was cut, most likely with bolt cutters. The local state police attitude is that this is another example of why individuals should not own handguns.

When I got my permit way back in the stone age I was told to never, ever, leave my handgun in the car, as someone could steal it.

Hmmmm I am just an Aussie but I think in answer to your question you would lose your concealed carry permit quite possibly do some time but as you know one rule for them one rule for us

Well what the hell! I would not ever think of
not chambering a round and lock the pistol!
After all what the hell is the sense of an empty fire arm to a police officer??? Its in his vehicle which I assumed that was locked and how would anyone know anyhow!!!??? Stupid charge !

If you think for even 1 second that preferential wasn't granted to him in this instance you're a fool. He left the firearm in PLAIN VIEW which other officers saw. This being your first post here lemme tell ya something. His actions were extremely irresponsible and reflect poorly on not only police officers, who should be held to a higher standard, but those of us who ARE responsible gun owners. Actions like these reflect poorly on all of us and lead to more charges soon after incidents like this to set "examples" of all firearm owners, not to mention incidents like this fuel fires for more gun control which none of us need nor want.

The charge isn't stupid, he is.
