Well I shot my gun for the first time the other day. .30-06 mossberg (just a beautiful damn bolt action) and I lay prone to let some relief off my shoulder. I got my shot aimed down with my scope and I pulled the trigger. Then.. BAMM the scope hits me right in the eye and around it.. I GOT SCOPED for the first time, yeyeyeyeye. It was PRONE to happen (haha pun).

Part of me wants to chuckle and say "amateur" under my breath, but I've been there and done that and yeah, it's no fun. Also try explaining to your peers the next day what that odd welt on your forehead is.

It happened to me one time. First and last time I put a scope on a shotgun. It was a wet cold day, I pulled up on a doe but the scope was fogged so I moved my eye closer, found the deer and BOOM.....killed the deer, scoped my eye.

Luckily my eye and around it didn't get bruised, there is still a little red mark, but around there hurts

My grandfather would do it every year when he would check zero on his shotgun. Every year he would show up to venison dinner with his eye messed up and we would get a good laugh. Strange thing is he would never scope himself on a deer.

OK beyond the funny stuff there is some technical issues that should be talked about with this subject. This could be a result of a cheap scope with poor eye relief. It could be result of a poorly mounted scope. Lastly and most likely it could be a result of poor shooting position. If you have any idea which one it is there's a fix so it won't happen again.

Miles has a point about the eye relief. Check the box the scope came in or online for the max relief for your scope. It should be 5 or 6" or something like that. Then move the scope forward to the max distance and hopefully you won't have that happen again.

Yeah until the dumb liberal sitting next to you at work calls the police and you loose your guns. Does that ever worry you guys. I work with a couple liberals and I would not put it past one or two to call on me and make something up.

While I agree with your theory if your admitting to a violent crime you can't really argue.
In my case I worked with a French intern and honestly she was so against guns I thought she would call some one and say something about me untrue so I did not get issued my permit. Of course she was only in the USA for six months. That did happen. Of course that is communism. So I get your point.

I went on a boar hunt down in Tioga, PA. Our guide told us a story about some NYC guys that bought their guns and scopes on the way to the ranch and installed them in the car on the way there. When they shot it the first time, the guy got scoped BAD. They left that day without ever hunting.

Turns out they put the scope on backwards and had their eye right up against the scope.

You got lucky. I've seen some stitch worthy gashes from scopes. The one time I did it I was wearing safety glasses that caught most of the impact. I did hunt with those glasses on that season though. The next year I dropped the charge 20 grains (muzzleloader).

Although I'm only in coincidental contact with any liberals, any "official" visits due to lies of a ratfink will not be recognized as legitimate use of power.
