Ok so NC guided is out and OH DIY is in for next year’s (finally) bowhunting trip. Been tossing the idea of finally taking a hunting trip around for awhile, always end up cancelling in the end. The motivation to finally do it is that this will happen just after my 40th birthday.
I am currently looking at Brush Creek Wildlife Area:

That may change as we get closer and more in depth in the planning. As of now, my cousin will be my partner. Open to tag alongs if anyone is interested. Unfortunately, the nearest motel is 19 miles away on the WV border. Drive to hotel from Staten Island is a little over 7 hours.
For anyone who doesn’t know, OH’s game laws are ridiculously simple; not much different than ours. I figured it all out in about 10 minutes yesterday. Licenses are reasonable for non-residents: $125 for hunting license, $24 for either-sex permit. Six total deer per season, only one buck. Number of deer and type of permit (they also have an anterless tag) is determined by county. Obviously for my trip, I’ll be looking at two max. The point here is a RACK!! Ohio has a hunting license that is good for the entire season. Implements change as the calendar rolls, but most of it is bow. I’d consider going back in the late season if I don’t fill my tags.
So has anyone hunted Ohio? Wildlife Are suggestions? Tips? I already checked with some OH guys on an archery Facebook page and they confirmed I have the licensing system down pat.
And anyone interested in tagging along, let’s talk. My cousin is prone to ditching plans last minute because of his bitch wife. Mine is a dream.
