So everyone already knows that Jan 31st this year is the deadline for people to recertify their PP if it was issued on or prior to Jan 1st 2013.

We also know how much of an issue the state is finding this to be, yes it's the "first wave" of recertification and thus going to be the largest number needed to do so. Then they would all have to do so again in 5 years (here we see that every 5 it's going to be a giant ass mess for the state police)

But it seems many are over looking February 1st, what happens then, well a whole new state wide group is to be turning in their paperwork. And what about February 2nd, same thing and so on and so forth every day, more and more bogging them down proving how unrealistic this is.

Now here is where it gets more fun. So all the recertification is, is telling them what handguns you have registered on your PP (fyi to try and act all bad ass III% and say I'm not going to tell them information that I already tell them is fucking stupid at this point) But what you can do is the day you see your paperwork has been accepted and what not, go out buy a new handgun that day add it to you PP like you would any other time, and now THEIR data base is all fucked up.

Even more fun let's say this is here to stay, every week put away say $5 and after 5 years you now have $1,300 to spend on a new I recertified handgun hell maybe even sell one (shit this is perfect for a hi point) this whole while you are keeping your end up to date but fucking up their whole data base.

We all know this data base is most likely going to be used to cross check people's PP, but make it out of date the same day they update their data base, if it does end up with someone getting falsely arrested because your permit doesn't match what they have on record, more evidence that the shit is garbage

Except it won't be. Every time you add a handgun to your permit, a copy of the Form PPB-5 that you complete gets forwarded to the state, and their records get updated.

The purpose of the database is for the State to get a clean look at who still has handguns in the state. People die and move away all the time, and their permits never get turned in. By forcing people to recertify (renew?) on a regular basis, it's enabling the state to keep their records cleaner. They don't care as much about WHAT you have until it's time for you to surrender them. Right now, they care more about WHO still has them.

I’m pretty sure the point of the recertification process is not to know what pistols you have. Adding a new pistol to your permit after you recertify will do nothing. If that was the point they would make your notify them every time you bought a gun or switch from the county handlingnit to the NYSP handling it.

Exactly what’s happening is the point. They will say look these people are supposed to be law abiding citizens and they are not. More of a reason for gun control.
Then more people will be banned for having firearms in NYS. If you don’t recertify on time you think they will give you another permit? I doubt it. Also there goes your long guns too. I see many criminal possession of weapons charges coming up. No I don’t think they will go door to door, but if you get pulled over they will know your permits revoked and bam.

Nothing the OP states or suggests would put anyone at risk of unwarranted prosecution and wouldn't create any more red tape than the NYSP has already created for themselves.
I see his point, and advocated for persons to recertify early instead of waiting for the 1/31/18 deadline. Once a persons recertifies the onus is on the NYSP to keep their database up to date, not the permit holder(s). The information on every handgun one buys after recertifying will be sent to the NYSP as usual via their local permitting authority and the FFL who conducts the transaction. It's up to the NYSP to keep their shit up to date until the next recertification cycle. It's not the permit holders responsibility to make it as easy as possible for them.

Given some guns from my dad and I asked what paperwork I needed to prove he was my dad and to register the guns. They just said c-form since he’s a cop and no proof that we’re father son. It’s not a county thing it’s exempt in the safe act.

They wanted to use the federal NICS system. They were denied access. They were told they needed to create their own database. Well guess what happened. They couldn't afford in the budget the cost of creating the database. So what do they do? They get the very people who they're looking to infringe to input and create the database for them..... at an incredibly reduced rate because of all the people who input the data for them. Yes, they still have to pay for the data entry for the paper submitted forms, but that is definitely severely subsidized by the self input data.

Just watch in the months, maybe a year, to come. The ammo BGC will be back on the table. Probably add $15 per purchase to the cost of ammo purchases.

In addition to the BGC they'll be able to monitor the ammo count we buy. They'll likely add another edict to the infringement list stating there is now a limit on how much and how often we can purchase ammo.

Be forewarned, this is your last opportunity to stock up.

You do realize that they already know you have a pistol permit and the serial numbers of the guns on your permit right?

So what database are you creating? This wasn't passed after the ammo BGC failed. It was passed together in the Unsafe Act.

They won't do it around here. To circumvent them (they're so stupid) you would co-own the handgun then one party would remove it from their permit. Same result with an extra step.

That is the fear folks . ... I dipped snuff in the 70's ... Skoal was 60 cents a tin ... Today it is like $7.00 .. The government trying to limit usage by taxing the product to death... No reason why at some point they would do this with every gun you own ...$ 2-300 permit fee .. How about on a yearly basis .. $50-100/handgun permit fee... What better way of limiting the number of handguns in a population . ... Look at the soda tax
