You might be able just to go on line and renew it. Things change and it’s been a long time since I had to deal with it.

Assuming you mean pistol permit? If it hasn't been suspended, revoked, or turned in, you might be able to just recertify (not renew) it.
NYS license for/to what ? Drive ? Carry ? Wipe your own butt ? (I'm sure that last one is coming eventually)

A few people I have spoken with have never recertified their pistol permits and they were not revoked. They have since recertified them without issue. It was a thread on another forum so take it for what it is but seems believable.

I know you're brand new on the forum, and so I don't mean to rag on you here, but this requires a bit more specificity (and being in the proper forum section)
Simply saying "NYS licence" is pretty unclear, as that could mean many things. Hell, even with the assumption that it's a firearm related licence that could mean a couple of things.
If this were placed in the pistol permit section, that would take most of the guesswork out. (Again though, new to the forum, I get it and I hope that you do figure your way around and get use out of this place. If you need any help at all, the staff and most members are always happy to.)

OP appears to be from Coram (Suffolk County) so license would be a renewable one.
