Older Dillon Press info needed

my friend may be getting a older dillon press , its a progressive but to move the rounds you have to use
your finger to spin it ... i don't recall the model num of what he said but anyone know of it and are there mods so when you pull the handle its fully auto and no finger needed ???

The only ones that index on their own are the 1050, 650, and sdb.

Oh and yes. The mods you need to have them index on their own are to buy a 1050, 650, or sdb.

probably a 550B or a Square Deal B. I have two 550B. Absolutely love the machine. AND they have a "no bullshit" lifetime warranty. a buddy of mine had about 100K rounds through his 550 and it was "getting sloppy", he sent it back, they rebuilt it and sent it back to him at no charge. Can't beat that.

I don't believe you can add anything to an SD-B or a 550B to make it 'automatic' . Your buddy is going to have to get the next model up, the 650 if he wants an automatic unit.

why does he want the 'auto' feature? Once you get a rhythm going (on a 550) you can pump out 300-400 rounds an hour.

I have a Square Deal B and although it has issues, I love it.
The first thing I would tell your friend to do is send it back to Dillon for maintenance (find something/anything that is broken and needs fixing). Dillon will restore machine to original working order for FREE. If you send it to them for a cleaning they will charge you $80.
I had a broken bolt on my SDB and sent it back. I took off several arms/levers etc so that I could fit press in a small box - Dillon sent me back my press with all new arms/levers - FREE.

Not new.

Your friend got a good machine. I bought a 550B after using a Square Deal B for years. Dillon knows how to take care of its customers.

he has not got it yet .. the guy that dropped it off at the shop here to sell has't giving a price last i knew ..

if its a 550B ... what would be a good buying price ?? .. i don't think any dies will coming with it ..

Find out what machine it is 1st, and what extras it has. Then we will be able to guide you.

He should buy it as long as it is less than retail.

Used dillons generally sell for about 90% of what new sell for. They hold their value......PROVIDING the person knows what it is. Obviously they can be stolen from widows..,,,,

Found out the shop sold it to someone else .. told my friend and I it needed lots of work .. then told us he would order us a new 550 or what ever at his cost ..
550b for 315.00 if we want to get one ..

Great price. Get it! By the way Dillon upgraded the 550 to a "C" model. Only difference I can see over the "B" is that they added some grease fittings for lubrication.
