On engraving costs...

The subject of custom engraving comes up on this forum once in a while, wether it's concerning guns or knives. Looking into a new knife purchase, some engraving options were available for the knife I was interested in. We are talking a base price knife of $ 275.00 now. Laser engraving - of the knife guard, and a little cap on the end of the sheath was a $ 95.00 option. For custom, traditional hand engraving, top quality, engraving, the cost was $ 2,875.00 , quite a large difference. Don't see myself springing for the more expensive stuff. This is for information purposes only. Beauty is, apparentlly, in the eyes of the beholder - and the independently wealthy.

Ok, I've waited long enough for you to correct what I thought was a typo... $2,875.00? Since you have not, I'm going to assume it's correct.

WTF? NFW! Unless you've got a large chunk of disposable cash you're mad at. Even if you do, still NFW. There's a lot better uses to put it towards rather than engraving.

You should post a pic of the knife tho. Porn is always good.

Dayum, If I had that kind of disposable income and wanted to spend it on engraving I'd have it done on a firearm, not a knife!

This is the knife with the engraving I was referring to. It is called a kirpan, and is typical of knives that are always carried by adherants of the Sikh religious sect. (Required as part of their religious beliefs.) A kirpan can also be a double edged dagger. For references, this knife has a 6 inch blade. For further info, you can search Jot S. Khalsa Kirpans. He does make some presentation grade knives, gold & bejeweled with prices approaching 100 K.

The thing that is outrageous about gun engraving is that you need a special license to engrave a gun.

WTF? Even without changing the serial or anything.

That adds to the cost.

I met a Sikh in NYC long ago who also had a knife in his hair under his turban -- it was a religious thing. He told me that they are not to cut their hair or beards. That was about 60 yrs ago. Things may have changed since then. I know I have
