.40 S&W
Alright guys, looking for recommendations for an on-gun light / laser. This is for an M&P 40c that is a primarily a nightstand gun so I'm not too concerned about holster compatibility or anything like that.
Guy made a typo in the title. The surefire looks better to me.
I've had a Streamlight TLR1 on my nightstand gun for years. Same light, but different guns through the years. XD 45, Sig Sauer P220 Combat, Glock 19. Sure miss that XD 45 - my buddy in Florida loves it. Miss the Sig 220, at the other place in Arizona. No laser on the TLR1, but that's OK with me.
Yeah, I know. Started with the XD 9 Tactical way back right after Springfield took over the HS2000 design. Felt like a polymer Browning High Power (oh, the blasphemy). Rented it out because my boss wouldn't put an XD into rental. Made back the cost of it three or four times over and then grabbed the XD 45 Compact. Sold it to my buddy because of the magazine capacity (I was moving back to NY at the time just after the un-SAFE BS was passed) and bought the XDS45, which I recently traded in on a Glock 43. Kept a Sig 220 Compact for my NY 45acp gun and left the 220 Combat and an older Birdsong Black T 220 in AZ.Had an XD 45 Service - most naturally pointing and dependable sidearm I've ever had.
And, I traded it in . What an idiot I am!
I am happy with my Streamlight TLR-1HL, it works well with my P220 stainless frame. The light is bright, but the strobe for me is useless as I will not be able to double tap the switch if needed in an emergency.
Good price.Just picked this up for $96 on Amazon.
Will replace my TLR1s

Remember, these are the ultra and HL models. Probably worth the upgrade.
Ultra -$215
TLR HL -$125
Doubt it is that much better though.
Video points out some fairly serious concerns with the Streamlight. Can never go wrong with Streamlight. The punishment that they can take and still function is impressive as hell.
Tl;dw, what's the long and short of it?Video points out some fairly serious concerns with the Streamlight.

It's the guy from Warrior Poet Society, I like him. He has just the right amount of energy to be interesting without going overboard.
He compared the following lights: Streamlight TLR-1 HL, Surefire x300u, Surefire XC1 and Inforce APL.
He discusses reliability, control/activation, blinding power, cost and concealability (appendix).
He ranked the Surefire x300u 5/5, 4/5, 5/5, 3/5, 2/5
The Streamlight TLR-1 HL he ranked 3/5, 1/5, 4/5, 5/5, 2/5
His main issues with the Streamlight were incidents of it falling off the handgun (bad attachment?) and its very sensitive activation paddle; he said he's witnessed people in classes accidentally activating the light, giving away their position etc..
He really likes the Surefire, but it's very pricey; double the price of the Streamlight.
