The follow information was provided via several emails by a friend heavily involved in the New Orleans disaster of hurricane Katrina. I highly recommend that you read it and pay attention to the lessons therein.

I've had over 30 people staying with me since Sunday, evacuating from New Orleans and points south in anticipation of Hurricane Katrina. Only two families were my friends they told other friends of theirs that they knew a place where they could hole up, and so a whole bunch arrived here! I didn't mind, because there were six RV's and travel trailers, so we had enough accommodation. However, I've had the opportunity to see what worked - and what didn't - in their evacuation plans and bug-out kits, and I thought a few "lessons learned" might be appropriate to share here.

Interesting and worth reading and making a sticky..But the guy contradicts himself,, several time, thinking point #3 on the first post and point #1 on I think the third or fourth post. He sounds like a nice guy, and SHTF situations do not leave room for nice guys..Or gals. He had a thirty day food supply for himself and his, that wound up as a two day supply for thirty people, many of whom he did not even know. Overall though, some good lessons to be learned.

I feel lucky that we as in my family have a few different member's houses we could make a short term stay at and one or two that would take us in for long term if the need arose. Not everyone is so fortunate

It only goes to show the importance of "operational security". Don't tell everyone how well prepared you are, you are only putting a target on your back!

Nobody better come to my place when the SHTF. I don't got shit to steal unless you like eating cat food. I swear...my cat will likely be eating better than I will if TEOTWAWKI ever comes to pass.
