When your opponent calls you ‘communist,’ maybe don’t propose price controls?​

It’s hard to exaggerate how bad Kamala Harris’s price-gouging proposal is.
“Price gouging” is the focus of Vice President Kamala Harris’s economic agenda, her presidential campaign says. She’ll crack down on “excessive prices” and “excessive corporate profits,” particularly for groceries.

So what level counts as “excessive,” you might ask? TBD, but Harris will ban it.

The most likely template for Harris’s proposal is a recent bill from Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). (Harris co-sponsored similar legislation with Warren in 2020, when Harris was a senator.) Warren’s bill would ban any “grossly excessive price” during any “atypical disruption” of a market. Alas, no definition was provided for these terms, either; rather, the bill would empower the Federal Trade Commission to enforce bans using any metric it deems appropriate.

If her followers were smart maybe they would know how economics works but they don’t. Yes we do bitch about the cost, but most here have a basic understanding of the dynamics that drive those costs. The end cost of a product cannot be separated from the economy in which it was created and simply assumed to be "price gouging" when it becomes burdensome.

The factors driving the price must be addressed. Running a business with increased regulatory costs within an economy that funds foreign wars with a devalued fiat money supply and a poor energy policy is not a good recipe for prosperity. Fixing the end price does not address all those factors that drove the price in the first place and imposes a greater burden upon business to bring products to market and then ultimately fail adding increased unemployment to the mix.

Gold has been breaking records one after another and just hit a record high yesterday of $2,538, that really is not a sign that our economy is doing well.

You assume maybe she isn't going to do anything about it, but she stated her approach. Your assumption has no merit and only exists to deflect the communism comparison.

At the very least her proposal is the result of one who lacks understanding or a veiled assault upon capitalism.

The current price of food and durable goods is due to the energy costs associated with producing and transporting said food and goods, the costs associated with the current regulatory environment, and mandatory high minimum wages.
