Opinions wanted on double Barrel Shotguns

In any case I think it's safe to assume that something like the DP-12 was not what the OP had in mind.

If you are set on something old school, I'd def go with an old SxS coach gun.

I have many shotguns, most are O/U 28ga and english stocked, as I upland hunt a lot and you carry your gun more than shoot it.
My go to ruger red label is 4.5 pounds loaded and is a joy to carry, but I'm not shooting more than 1 round of clays with it.
That's what my heavier 725 is for.
O/U in 12ga would be my suggestion, as 1 barrel is easier to point and being a RO on trap, clays and skeet fields, their easier for me to see that their in a safe mode when broken open.
They usually have one trigger and unless you shoot it a lot, your prone to not remember to move your finger if a second shot is needed in the heat of the moment during a hunt.
Tha really sucks after you've been running around the woods all day and a grouse presents itself and you miss the one chance it gave you.
I've seen it happen plenty of times in the field after friends have bought their holy grail doubles and didn't put a lot of range time in to get their muscle memory down.
I kept telling them that their umpteen thousand dollar sidelocked, gold engraved english double isn't a POS, but I'll pay them $50 to take it off their hands !
It's funny that I also bought a Baikal 12ga 26" o/u ($210 out the door) for a loaner gun a long time ago. when I was guiding hunts on preserves.
Many people used it and it shot it's fair share of birds.
One day when I went to the trap range, they wanted to shoot doubles and it was the only double gun in my truck.
I put the mod and full chokes in it, grabbed my 7.5 hunt loads and proceed to run 50 straight.
I never shot it once before and it ended up being cast perfectly for me, a left hand shooter.
In the end, you should get to as many gun shops as you can and see what fit's you, what you like, in your price range.
No use trying out a shotgun and finding it fits you, then finding out it's it's $2K.
