Well it arrived today, OMP sierra longbow. I wanted a longbow for some reason and wanted a " beginner/budget/not custom" one. I settled on the sierra after researching a lot of different options. So far it feels very good. I picked up a half dozen gold tip traditional arrows for it and ordered a FF string, bear hair rest material, and beaver puffs string silencers. Hopefully it turns out to be a great hunting bow.

I like the fact that you are taking up the challenge but that is not a long bow, more a recurve without the re.

The limbs have a slight bend but I think it is pretty solid as a long bow. The Chinese Black Hunter "longbow" take downs are a pretty cool hybrid style.



I would like to shoot these and see how they feel. Reviews I have seen on both the long bow and recurve have been good and they are cheaply priced.

I like the looks of a fine recurve and you do get a bit more speed per pound of pull but to me they tend to amplify any mistakes I might make such as a bad release or a slight torque of the bow hand, while the long bow tends to be more forgiving of my foibles and shoots a heavier arrow which I like, but I am speaking of a more traditional type long bow in style and substance. Either way they are both fun to shoot. I hunted with a long bows of my own making exclusively for thirty years till I took up making muzzleloaders, at which point my wife says, geeze, a thousand years of social evolution in eight months, I'm impressed!!!Hah!
