Just curious if anyone knows how long it will take for approval in Oswego County. Turned in paperwork in July and haven't heard anything yet. How long should I wait until I start making inquiries about the status?

I don't know but it's been over 6 months for my daughter. When I lived in Oswego County I found the folks at the pistol permit counter to be good people, helpful and all that stuff. Could just be a left leaning judge in in charge of PP approvals?

I wouldn't bother calling. I'd take a drive to Oswego and speak directly to the person at the permit counter, and ask what the hold up is. I had been there a few times when I lived in Oswego County and it wasn't crowded and the folks behind the counter were nice to deal with.
Oswego Co. is a whole lot different than the permit folks in Onondaga County at the Sherrif Dept. I've found that the Onon. Co. permit dept. people have a bit of a 'tude. They don't seem to like the inconvenience of having to do their job. Plus there's the phun of finding a place to park in shithole Syracuse.

10 months now. Still waiting. Going to go down and speak with them at the clerks office. This seems a bit of an infringement at this point.

ask them , hey since SCOTUS ruled in Breun vs NYSRPA that it is now shall issue ..
that means you just sign the damn permit and mail it .. it shouldn't take 10 month .. more like 3 days..

Hey @IrishMick Good Luck with that! Hopefully, if you see these notes re my experiences with NY's CCW process before going there, you will be wise enough to recognize and refute any similar bullshit thrown your way.
Back in the day, when I submitted my application to the Erie County PPO, I asked them when I could expect them to have it done.
The clerk at the counter snickered and said: "In about 2 years, - because we're backed up! (Of course, that was with them having at least six clerks processing applications...Absolute fucking horseshit!) He said: "first we'll put it in a file cabinet for about a year; then we'll send it out to the different agencies, - one at a time; then once we get it back from the last one, we'll send it out to your local town cops; then once we get that back from the local cops, we'll put your file in a pile for the judge, and once the pile gets big enough (50-100 files), we'll send it up to him."
And of course, that shit was a complete and total lie. I found out later when I had obtained a complete copy of my PPO file through an attorney, that they don't send out your paper file sequentially to the different agencies (FBI, NYS Purple Tie Squad, NYS Mental Health, and so on...) No, in fact what they did was to do the background check with those agencies online, - and instantly! I saw that they completed all of the checks on me (except for my local PD) on the DAY AFTER I submitted my application! Then they threw it in some pile, and fed me bullshit every month about how they were waiting for the file to be received back from this agency, and then it was being sent out to that agency (once the pile of applications got big enough)! Absolute horseshit while they delay issuing permits!
When I reminded them that the law in New Yorkistan gives them 6 months total, EVERY single clerk in the office had a fit of laughter right in front of me!
Coming from the private sector where we get shit done in a timely fashion, or risk getting fired, I told them I was going to keep after them. And I did. I followed up with them every month. And as I found out later, -they lied through their teeth the entire time anyways (see above).
The end result? I made it onto their shitlist. I got my permit back in 8 months when others were getting theirs in 18-24 months. But I paid a price for that. They deliberately sent my file to my local cops separately from all the other applications that went to them that month, - writing on it "Make certain to do an extra thorough investigation of this person, - we think he wants his pistol permit so he can buy a gun and go kill someone." My local cops, - with whom I had been on great personal terms my entire life living in that town changed after that. They investigated me, - and my businesses, my ex-wife, contacted my underage kids, my social media, my neighbors, and even investigated my references themselves, two of whom were licensed NYS professionals, and two were NY CCW holders for decades. Suffice it to say, my feelings toward, and my good relations towards my local cops changed after that.
I don't miss that bullshit down here in the Carolinas. And I STILL haven't shot or killed anybody, LOL!

Finally! Almost 11 months! Got the call Friday morning to come in and pick it up! Shopping to ensue. Thinking of a Glock 19 and a Beretta 92. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Aren't most permits issued in upstate counties either Carry or Premise, as directed by NY penal law? Only down state counties tricked applicants into this unenforceable hunting, target, business carry...ect so called restriction stuff. They remind you that it's "self restriction" and you selected it on the application so they are abiding by your request. 
IMHO, if your license says anything other than Premise, carry on.
Such BS down here in Westchester too. After 30 years of having a so called "Full Carry" I had to wait 8 months and take a class. lol
Its all BS. The longer SCOTUS continues to allow their ruling to be defied, the BS will get worse.
