PA Non-Resident CC Permit

I have my NYS CC, Utah and N-R PA permits. It’s time to renew the PA permit.
Is the N-R PA permit worth the 4 hour round trip drive?

EDIT: decision made. Wife an I are heading for PA. She will be getting her nr Pa permit also.

Can you no longer renew by mail? That's what I did a few years ago.

I believe you can renew NR by mail now......may depend on the county but I think Crawford county sent me a renewal recently that stated I could do it on-line.

I originally did mine in McKean County, but last time did it in Erie, PA. Easy as I take I-90 when going between Buffalo and Charlotte.

Going down to Scranton this Friday for a renewal what the heck I have been retired over 10% of my life so it is good to have something to do. Lackawanna Co. web page says no new non residents LTC’s or so they say, YMMV. The tale gets funnier, to me.

Some may know that I was on an Alaska cruise, https://nygunforum.com/threads/what-did-you-do-today.37830/post-1390358 . Being fairly organized I sent my renewal application the day before I left thinking any reply would becoming about now and I would be home to receive it. Much to my surprise! While strolling the street of Ketchikan I felt my phone vibrate and saw a Pennsylvania number so I answered it. The Lackawanna County Deputy calling wanted to schedule my appointment in Scranton. Which we did.

Pressing my luck I pleaded my case for Butterfly also being issued a Pa. LTC even though it was not an option on their web page. The answer I got was that her application would need to be there before Friday PM as time is needed to run background check. I thought I can deal with that and overnighted Butterfly's app. on Monday morning.

Today started with an early dentist appointment then home to get lucky then out to split firewood. After a while Butterfly who was out flitting around doing her thing came down to the barn holding a couple of beers. I knew she had something to say.

"Well I got a message from the deputy in Pa. and she said that she can't issue non resident LTC's" but to call if any questions.. Which Butterfly did and was answered by a different deputy. While Butterfly was stating the reason for the call the deputy interrupted and asked "is this" (insert real name here) which was affirmed. The deputy then said "disregard the message you received".

That is all I know for now. We are headed down I81 on Friday to get our LTC pictures taken and a stop for an early dinner at Binghams Diner.

I believe they stopped mail in renewals. Mine is up today and I have not gotten there to renew it. Busy so that’s life.

Yes, that is true, but you have to pick it up in person since they started putting photos on their permits. I've had mine when all it was, was a piece of paper but since they went plastic you have to pick it up in person.

My recollection from when I got my first PA one back years ago was plastic and definitely had my picture on it. The one I just got from Erie, PA last year is paper, laminated with my picture on it. They printed it right away, and said that I didn't want to wait around up to 20 minutes for it to get spit out, that they would mail it to me. I was just about to give up when they gave it to me hot off the printer.

I use Warren County and my first permit was a piece of paper all done online and mailed. Now, I renew online and they let me know when it's ready to pick up. One year to pick it up. Picture on plastic card taken when I go to pick it up. All said and done in about 15 minutes.

Cool. My wife and I were in Gettysburg a few years ago and since nothing opened till a little later, we walked down to Sheriff's office In and out in about 20 minutes and she had her permit. Like I said, that was a few years ago so things may be different now.

Ironically, I received a letter from Lackawanna County that I need to renew my PA license. You can mail them the included application and photo copies of your driver license and NY permit, but the letter says they will call me for an appointment.

Last time I renewed in Milford PA, closer than Scranton for me. I believe I filed renewal online and then was notified to pick up next day.

Beautiful day for a drive today. 4 hr round trip. Took 20 minutes to renew mine and wife to get hers for the first time.
Had a nice dinner in Mt Morris @ Suzea’s. Totally gluten-free menu which is perfect for my wife. I don’t have to be but I’ll tell you the roast beef waffle sandwich is great

Butterfly and I spent maybe 15 minutes in court house here in Scranton. Both of us leaving with our Pa LTC.

It looks like the only state that this would benefit me on my drives from NY to AZ is PA itself. Illinois and New Mexico would still require that I disarm and lock up the gun and ammo.

You can vote by mail but can't renew something that is un constitutional in the first place. Think about it.
