Painting Magpul Stock... has anyone done this?

Just wondering if anyone has ever painted the Magpul Polymer stocks and what type of paint and process is the most durable. I have been searching for a Magpul SGA stock for months and the only thing available is the orange. I was considering ordering that and just painting it black with my HVLP unit. I have the equipment to get a high quality coating down but I am just not sure what type of paint to use for max adhesion.

I use rustoleum camo for all my painting needs. Works perfect, and the matte finish has no reflection. Krylon also makes a camo paint that I've heard does well, but I've never used it personally.

Be sure to remove or tape off anything rubberized. The paint won't stick, and it just smears for seemingly ever.

Experimenting with things like unused stocks and pellet rifles was how i started. That way I didn't care if they came out like crap.

@dwa12479 what kind of prep goes into that (particularly so it adheres properly to the grip and the other "plastic" bits)?

Have a half built franken gun I've been thinking I might rattle can once I've accumulated all the parts...

Not much, just sprayed them with a solution called "Acrysol" Its a surface prep that I get from the bodyshop at work. Leaves no residue. The paint eventually starts wearing a little, then yoy get that "battleworn" look. I use the paint just to break up the profile of rifles, dont really care how it looks all that much once its done. Its a functional process, not a form thing. Lol.

Kent Acrysol is great for removing various adhesive residue or other epoxy clean up before it has dried. This is a gentle chemical wash that will (in most cases) not harm the surface of your part.

Just used brake cleaner to wipe everything down and rust-oleum flat camo colors.

Looks like my favorite process. Some alternating angled stripes followed by a laundry bag overlay with colors opposite the first layer.. Gives off a great looking snake skin effect and really breaks up the profile of the rifle. I try to keep the top darker and the bottom lighter. That's nature's camouflage pattern.. I prefer wide stripes though, about a hand width or so.

If you just want to make it solid black, I recommend using black rit dye. You pretty much just soak the stock in a boiling tub of water until you reach the desired color.
