My god, these men's rights were so violated. Stupid laws; stupid police. No one got hurt, no victim, no crime.
Wait a minute, they put holes in the garage. Damaging someone's property isn't a crime?
Green, Gray, and Blue Solve the Case - Sullivan County
On Jan. 15, Sullivan County 911 received a complaint from a Grahamsville resident who heard several gunshots followed by the sound of a bullet hitting his garage. New York State Troopers responded and requested ECOs to assist. Prior to ECO Ricky Wood's arrival, NYC Department of Environmental Protection Police also responded and found two men at a house on an adjacent road. The pair stated they were target shooting with a .308 rifle from the porch of a house. There was a target on a tree at the edge of the yard that appeared to be directly in line with the complainant's garage. The subjects said they shot a total of five or six times and gave a Trooper three spent .308 shell casings. ECO Wood then deployed K-9 Deming, who found another casing in the grass and one near the end of the porch. ECO Wood determined that the subjects had fired from just over 300 feet without the permission of the occupants. The two men were arrested and charged by State Police with reckless endangerment 2nd degree. ECO Wood issued tickets to the subjects for discharging a firearm within 500 feet of an occupied dwelling. The subjects were released and are scheduled to appear in Neversink Town Court.
500 for gun, 250 xbow, 150’ bow.500 feet of a dwelling though..? Is that local? I thought it was like 200-300 feet? Also, they were dumb as hell for using a high-powered rifle without a proper backstop, so on that, I can see reckless endangerment. But for the proximity alone to be a reason for reckless endangerment or to be fined just for that, sounds like bullcrap..
500 for gun, 250 xbow, 150’ bow.
I can’t even shoot my vertical bow in my backyard
300’ garage down range is pretty damn stupid.
I know exactly what you did, you filthy boy.... I probably shouldn't even say what I used to do in my residential neighborhood in Long Island... lmao
Did they need spread the wealth ? why would the DEC be required to issue a separate ticket?
The 500 foot rule is a DEC regulation not a penal code thing.
Well, fucked if I know then. Somebody likely needed the OT.
I know exactly what you did, you filthy boy.
Now back to the topic I have heard of people making inside, sound proofed gun ranges. One could shoot a suppressed 22 (in a free state) inside and nobody outside would ever know. Lead dust is a problem though.
So if you have permission from the adjacent home owner, can you shoot within 500'?
It's not a bad idea at all. I experimented with quite a bit of lead-free pellets (there are a lot of them now), so then whatever tiny bits of lead dust airguns can, in some cases, deliver into the air is moot. I didn't find the lead-free ammo as accurate, but some of it was okay in my cheap guns.Oh yeah, now I'm in South Florida and the thing is... It's an association and the original "model" unit had an attic, while the others never did. Thing is, they never changed the roof pitch!
It's tough to get up there, but once you do, there's actually a hell of a lot of room. I'm seriously considering putting in a ladder and laying down plywood through the whole place, and basically having a 30 yard shooting range up there, for airguns and wax bullets. But the thing is, I am worried about the lead. Maybe I could do some kind of exhaust fans to only turn on when I'm up there... I'm sure there are worse options for the lead. Maybe a couple air purifiers?
