My only quibble with this, because you and I are on the same page, is that your second sentence does define it- but it isn't defined in the law. They left this ambiguous for a reason, but that doesn't mean we get to disambiguate it (legally) on our side.

For the sake of conversation, what if I were to drill a rod through a standard pistol grip and leave it there so that I cannot get my hand around it. Would that change the configuration to not be a pistol grip?

I guess my point is that since it isn't defined it's much harder to say that it isn't a pistol grip compared to if it were defined like in California. If it were defined, you can say that it isn't because of x,y,z.

Some say that since it isn't defined you can get away with it. I disagree because if that were the case, one can just put a standard pistol grip on and say that it isn't one because it isn't defined. We all know that isn't the case.

I'm not redefining anything. The law says a protruding pistol grip. No definition. It's a protruding pistol grip with a fin attached. Had it been just a flat fin with no grip attached to it, you'd be on to something.

Correct. It's a pistol grip that protrudes downward at an angle. Just because it's sold that way, it doesn't mean it's legal according to the law. Complete rifles with standard Bullet buttons were sold too as well as complete rifles with the Tier5 bolt stop. Those were pulled off the shelves after some Trooper got a bug in his ass to make an illegal interpretation.

About the only modification to date that actually has case law is the Thordsen stock. That rifle was returned to the arrestee.

I'm just giving my opinion that perhaps you haven't looked at in the angle I'm looking at it. No one here wants anyone to get into trouble or knock down anyone's ideas maliciously.

Previously people thought that standard Bullet Buttons were good to go. Now it isn't the case.

A few years ago, I was convinced that I could put a Mechtech upper on my Glock. I argued that a handguard wasn't a shroud. It was a long drawn out thread and it was me against the world. Many told me that it was so I erred on the side of caution and scraped the idea.

The new AWB that hasn't made it through Congress yet defines what a barrel shroud is. According to their definition, a handguard would be one since the barrel isn't exposed on the top.

We are just throwing out ideas that perhaps you didn't think of because you want it so bad.

I guess I was just wondering how you guys think it would feel to weld on a little finger tab to the trigger guard while it had a spur grip. I've held an AR with a spur and it was tollerable and one I build mine with the trigger guard I feel pretty confident I've just never healed an Ak with a spur.

It works for the AR, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for an AK.
