Police: Rob Gronkowski's house burgled over Super Bowl weekend
Pretty much an ideal setup for a criminal, huh ? You can see your mark right on TV - he ain't comin' home anytime soon. So they broke in, apparently stole a lot.
But the situation is - unexpected - at least to me.
Gronk has two roommates; everyone has their own room. A common situation for young folk; rare, I would think, for multi-millionaires.
Gronk and another roomie had locked their doors. The thieves never entered Gronk's room (perhaps they got spooked, or the van was already full). They did smash down the other locked door.
The guns were legally owned by one of the Room-Mates, and were locked in a Safe. The burglars carried off the entire Safe.
Anyhow, HERE'S MY BEEF.
People all over Bawstun are screaming "There are (shudder) GUNS OUT IN THE STREET ! Someone could get KILLED !"
These people just don't get it. Guns are inanimate objects; no more dangerous than a knife, a bat, bleach - or a MATCH.
But it gets worse: "The guns were in a Safe, but it wasn't BOLTED DOWN ! That's ILLEGAL !"
No. It's not.
In Massachusetts the only requirement is that any firearm that is not within your immediate control must be within a locked container (which can be even a nylon range bag) - OR - have a Trigger Lock.
Sadly, if you have a handgun under your pillow, it is assumed you are asleep, and thus NOT in control. I have heard stories where, in Mass, a person has had a Heart Attack, and overzealous EMT's have jammed the victim good by reporting an unlocked firearm was observed on the night stand.
