Peep sites for a 45-70

So I went out and got myself a Marlin (Remlin 1895G) 45-70. I HATE the stock buckhorn sites that come with the gun.

I was looking at peep sites and came across these: EXPRESS SIGHTS

does anyone have experience with this brand?

does anyone use another type of peep site? what was your experience

I've used the Williams and the Lyman brand rear sights. Both are a micrometer type that screw to the side of the receiver. Both have an aperture which I removed (unscrewed) for deer hunting and used the sight that way for good view and quick acquisition of target. Williams is aluminum and Lyman is steel.
Both of these sights have a good range of elevation and windage adjustment. These sights may not look as nice as the Skinner but they work very well and are easily adjustable.

I've no experience with the Skinner sight set up. It doesn't look bad and appears to be reasonably well made. I wonder how much adjustment the rear sight has for elevation. It sounds like you might also have to adjust for elevation by filing the front sight if high (shooting low) and buying a taller one if low (shooting high). I would like to see how the sight would look in the base if you had to adjust for windage. If it hung out of the base I would not care for that. It does look good on top of the receiver with everything lined up IMO.

i have used skinner sights on lever action guns. You do have to adjust the front sight but skinner gives you info on that.

I like the looks of the Black Gold site, but I was wondering if I adjust for windage, does it move the entire dovetail off the mount?

the other thing that I was wondering is in the FAQ, they describe how to different ammo affects your point of aim? my question is, how many different boxes of ammo do you have to shoot before your figure out what sites work best with Skinner sites

Jmac, Express sights are an iron sight for quick acquisition and very accurate shooting, the rear typically a shallow V and depending on your needs, sometimes it will have multiple flip ip leaves for longer range.

The front is typically a bead
and come in many configurations. It is an excellent sight combination for a hunting rifle.

It is NOT a question of what ammunition works best with the sights. It IS a question of what shoots the most accurately from your rifle. If you have had the rifle for awhile you should already have an idea of what brand/weight projectile shoots best. The sights used is a personal preference. The sights have no preference to ammunition. I like micrometer adjustable from the ease of adjustment standpoint. Others may not. Both styles (Skinner and micrometer) have removable apertures. I took the aperture out the sight for hunting and put it in for target shooting. I might have the williams and/or lyman sights around here somewhere, but where... Took a lot of deer with my trusty old Marlin 336 w/aperture sights.

And to answer your question, It is a good bet that any variation in manufacturer or bullet weight will affect point of impact. Even the same brand, bullet, etc. can change from year to year. That is one reason why you sight in before every hunting season...
