I like trucks.

I want a truck.

But I can't justify buying one right now as they are obscenely expensive I don't want to be paying 700 a month. No thanks. But that doesn't mean I want to prevent others from having them because I'm jaded.

Trust me. Most people are not buying them. They are leasing them. Middle class America can't afford these big hulking 60/70k trucks. Either that or they are taking out 10yr loans. I seen a special edition Ford with a sticker of 90 grand. I was about in a ditch laughing. That truck shall sit on the lot for some time. lol

I really dislike the idea of leasing. I want no part of it.

And I certainly want no part of spending 700-900 a month on a vehicle payment when the cost of everything else is skyrocketing. That's a terrible idea.

Just get an SUV -- reasonable cargo space and it's higher up for going to the range. People shit on them but they're basically hard top jeeps. I have no incentive to give up mine.

Leasing is good if you don't mind having an eternal payment, and are willing to have that in lieu of making repairs. Most manufacturers these days are including basic maintenance in the warranty period. So if you lease, you'll never go out of warranty, so that payment is the one and only for anytning and everything. It does make it easy to budget. AND you never end up driving broken down rusted out junk.

Screw all that. I’ll look on Craigslist or Bring a Trailer for a reasonably well cared for Chevy square body or Ford Highboy. I don’t need a tall car, I need a damn pickup truck, just like grandpa had.

Thats me too. I shop southern or western trucks when I'm ready. Just bought a 2003 Tahoe out of California in March with 166k on it. Never seen salt, truck is practically brand new underneath. Ill run it to 250k easy, maybe hit 300 if im lucky.

I did exactly that with a 2004 Suburban. Bought in southern MD so still some salt exposure but minimal… hauled kids dogs and the kitchen sink, then unloaded it last year for what I paid for it 8 years ago. Still didn’t have nearly as much rot as a local one.
