So other than immediate approval, the process I have to go through as part of my retirement is exactly the same as any NYC civilian.

Holy shit! This sucks balls.

I can skip all this and keep my guns based on HR218 alone, but then I won't even be able to buy ammo in NY, definitely not another gun. Plus NJ is weird with 218 and I am there very often. This process sucks ass.

I can't wait to be able to modify my Glocks back to normal though finally lol.

You can still buy ammo in the State. Maybe not the shitty, but everywhere else in the State.

Those of us who live in the city can't. Not all jobs allow that. I think NYPD who live outside the city can.

They'll have it ready for my actual retirement date anyway. I'm not off the books until at least 9/30, maybe 10/30.

I am not sure if I knew that about the permits and you guys not being allowed to have them. Stupid policy!

Our club runs HR once a month. Seems quite popular.

Lol. Well ... the immediate approval part of your process saved you a ton of paperwork, ... running around, ... money, ... and nine months of bureaucratic hoop jumping or judge waiting ... often endured by the good citizens in this god foresaken state to get their permit.

I have about 3 months to burn. Might start this week because of some shit that happened today with a jerkoff I work with. Otherwise definitely next friday.

My friend Jim has been out for 5 yrs and never got a permit, just his HR 218.He's in Fla now,but he hasnt had any problems.I think it would be a problem if he wanted to buy a gun in NY but he never tried and has no intention of buying one,here or in Fla.While he was still in NY he was doing armed security at the Empire State building for a while,dont think he had any issues with the 218

The only downside I have seen is that you have to make sure not to let your qualification expire. For this reason, I always qualify twice a year. But I don't mind the extra shooting. At age 74, I don't think too much about employment.

They shutdown qualifications due to Covid and his last city won’t allow him to qualify u see their umbrella because he works for a new department. He is a resource officer and since schools shutdown they wanted him to go back in the road. He said no. So he’s technically a cop but they won’t give him a badge at his new department because he hasn’t qualified. He’s not working so is he still really a cop? He’s just part time at will employee. Crazy stuff happens ABG. I’d get the permit if you can.

The way the law reads, any person who can conduct qualifications for law enforcement officers can conduct qualifications for the purposes of LEOSA. Last I knew, Rochester Personal Defense has at least one such guy who moonlights for him.
