Pistol License - you ain't kidding!

My son moved to Alabama July 4th week, last Friday he changed his drivers licence at 4:30. By 5:00 he was in his car with his p365xl and 20 round mags. In a few days he will have his conceal carry papers. NY SUCKS

AB Guy,I would follow up on the permit if I were you.One problem I saw was when I got pulled over for speeding.The trooper saw the blue line sticker on the back of the car and inquired about it.I told him my story and he asked if I was carrying,I said yes,he asked for my papers.I handed him my license along with my 218 card.He had no idea what the 218 was.He never heard of it and thought only active LEO could carry across state lines.He was no rookie either.I think if all I had was my 218 card I would have had a problem.

Welcome to civilian life and the pain of what we go through. I met a retired Lt. at 1PP during my last pistol purchase inspection and found to my surprise how ill treated retirees are for the whole process. One would figure that with all the service given they would make the process easier for you all.

Nope, no different at all. Actually I've heard retirees are in some ways treated worse because they don't fear lawsuits from us.

My friend Jim has been out for 5 yrs and never got a permit, just his HR 218.He's in Fla now,but he hasnt had any problems.I think it would be a problem if he wanted to buy a gun in NY but he never tried and has no intention of buying one,here or in Fla.While he was still in NY he was doing armed security at the Empire State building for a while,dont think he had any issues with the 218

the nice thing about cell phones is we can keep copies of the law or the active officer can just look it up.

I have it on my cell phone with digital copies/pictures of my ID card, “good guy letter, prior HR218 recertifications, with my permit and ID card.

Gotta make a retraction here,AB Guy.I saw my friend Jim this weekend and he did have a NYC permit when he was working security at the Empire St bldg.I was mistaken,he says you do need a permit to do security.When he moved to Fla he gave up the NYC permit and now carries on just his 218 cert.
