Pistol Permit "Abstract" -Incorrect Info

I have a "few" pistols and was curious to see what the county actually had listed on my permit so I had them print a copy of the records they have. I was a bit surprised to see many discrepancies on the abstract; missing makes, misspelled makes, missing models, missing calibers, models as the maker, etc, etc. Roughly 80% of my inventory was like this, and I haven't even checked the serials yet.
In my "effort" to give the state all the "correct info" for their database, in two weeks I will attach that abstract with my re certification.

I am sure I am not a unique case having discrepancies on my official permit information. I wonder how this database is going to work if all information is salted between FFL sending in the pistol slips, the county sending info to the state and the self audit done by the PP holder.

Two years ago I added a pistol to my license, when the amendment came there was a form with a list of my current pistols for me to check and return to the Sheriff (Saratoga County) making sure all the information was correct!

I believe after the SAFE recert deadline passes that it is a felony to have a pistol that isn't listed on your permit.

There is no penalty that I am aware of for having a pistol on your permit that you no longer have or doesn't exist.

So, having that Block 19 on your permit isn't a big deal, as long as you don't get caught carrying the Glock 19 that isn't on it.


As far as how it will work, ?

It will like laws always do in police states. Everyone is a criminal, they just ignore stuff until you piss them off. So you'll be fine as long as you keep your head down, but if some agent of the state decides you need to be punished for something they'll drag this one out, and all the sheep will go on about how you should have known better, and you got what you deserved.

Had mine checked with the County Clerk. Found two problems and had the fixed.

So, having that Block 19 on your permit isn't a big deal, as long as you don't get caught carrying the Glock 19 that isn't on it.

quicker with a dremel to fix that glock to a block .. LOL ...

THIS is why several lawyers Sheldon Boyce for one here in Rochester and Paloma Capanna for another have cautioned for several years NOT to wait until the last minute to send in this recertification. They claim that they have had to represent clients before a judge to explain why certain handguns are or are not in their possession... (Say sold a handgun and never got around to take it off your permit. ) as required by law .. And one week before the deadline they have said (Sheldon ) He would not have enough time to represent you if the need be . They claimed in counties where it is difficult to get a permit (judge is anti handgun )They will be very quick to take it away if things are amiss . (say left a gun on a car seat and it was reported to the police by a passer by )Stub your toe and they will yank it. And this fouled up paperwork could be the stub an anti 2nd judge will need . This is not my opinion ... It was their opinion when talking at some gun meetings .

If you 'forget' to take a pistol sold off of your permit, -- I don't believe there will be a problem. Had this happen just a few months ago. Upgraded to plastic permit - and gun list, - had a couple 'extra' firearms listed that I had transferred almost three yearsa ago. -- Pointed it out to them - 'NO PROBLEM' - they just removed them from the list. - I did say I thought I had them removed here at the permit office - they pulled my 'permanent record' -- every piece of paper from the past 30 years was in my file, every amendment, etc. -- ( But NOT those two) - Their reaction - 'no problem - all fixed now'.

I'm sure that varies from county to county. Fortunately for those of us in Oneida County (and I hope is several other counties) the folks in the pistol office are reasonable.

So if I mail in my recertification form today then add 27 handguns next week, other than pissing off my wife what effect does this have on their grand scheme? What if I transferred all my handguns to my son, recertified then transferred them all back?

It, it, it would be as decieptful as democratic voter registration.

You can co-list a firearm, so it's not in your possession, no issues at all, what's the problem? Only problem might occur if that firearm turns up at a murder scene... Lol

And really? Who here, can say in their life, they've ever been challenged as to what's on their permit and at the same time in their possession?

Oneida county will not list a co-ownership where the owners reside at different addresses, just saying.

Actually, I have, sort of. Got my original permit in Lewis county and the only gun I had on it then was a Ruger .357. Maybe a dozen years later I was living in Ontario county and got a call from a Lewis county deputy. Wanted to know if I still had that gun. I told him I had long since sold it. He asked if I knew who I sold it to. I said I had no idea but it was someone from nearby and maybe Ontario county could help him with that.

Being curious, I asked why he was inquiring and he said it was part of a murder investigation. A .357 had been used and they were trying to track down all .357's that had been registered in the county. I wished him good luck with that job and he said, "Yeah, tell me about it."

Never heard anything more about it.

On my recert, whatever was on my permit cards is what went on the recert. Correct or not.

NOTHING. They get the same information whether it's from an FFL's P-12 or your permitting authorities PPB-5.

I was thinking about this too. If people really wanted to be assholes, parents and children (or whomever really) would transfer a whole bunch of guns right before and then again after the deadline. So much a "pristine" database then!

Oh, and just don't add 28 new guns. That's a felony in the making. Not by state law mind you, but I'd keep one open at nigh to make sure the Mrs. doesn't murder you with one of your new acquisitions.

That's no a problem in actuality so long as the transfers are legally performed thru your county pistol office.

How does that happen in Oneida county since we use the coupons? They have always issues me the coupon to take back to the seller/FFL and right then they updated the list of pistols attached to my permit.

Just an FYI, Greene County will no longer co-register if one of the parties live outside Greene County. But they didnt say what happens to the guns already co-registered.

It eventually gives the next recertification date. Mine took about a week to go from "processed" to "Thank you for recertifying ........" Either way, they are acknowledging that they have it. Just noticed that they added some FAQs to their page.
