That is sad to see happening. For now, down here in free America, Cabela's is fine, and has none of that BS here in SC. As for Dick's, they are still around, but I gave up ever shopping there anymore about 10 years ago, and have no regrets about that.

Its called capitulation. Box stores making up compliance rules to stay in favor. I love Cabela's for it hunting clothing and other Cabela's branded stuff but don't buy other branded stuff there that you can get online for much less money.

It's why I never purchase ammo from Walmart anymore. Not even shotgun rounds.
They were one of the first to declare they were no longer selling pistol ammo, nor 556/223 ammo. They also have gone full brownshirt with any and all NY requirements, and even some that NY hasn't gotten around to yet.
And their employees response when challenged is "if you don't like it go somewhere else".

My son has not put one foot in a Walmart since they announced that they were not selling pistol or 556/223 etc ammo.

Judging by the mish-mash of ammunition often shown in SP Photos of confiscated Guns, it would seem most of their ammo was dug out of the Trash Barrel at the Range.

So I stopped by Cabelas in Cheektowaga to buy some small pistol primers. I was too impatient to wait for some ordered offline. And as they ring them up a message popped up on the computer saying to verify pistol license as they will be used for pistol ammunition or something to that variety. The older lady hit ignore and took my money.

Friend of mine said basspro wanted his drivers license to by rifle dies. He left the store without the dies.

I was talking with one of the old guys working the firearms counter. He said the management at Cabela’s is terrified of dealing with NYS on anything and they regularly go to them for clarification and advice. I think I’m done with Cabelas.

Exactly right. Lawyers and legislators. The liability from manufacturers thru user has a lot of them worried. “Pistol” ammo isn’t defined in NYS law (Ohio does) but to buy pistol ammo you must have a permit. An obscure law that has been there for a long time. Now they (big box stores) are getting ahead of our knowledgeable legislature. Brownells, Natchez, Midway all treat their reloaders well as well as your small local gun store
