Pistol permit Recertification Time

It’s permit renewal time for those of us who renewed Three years ago this January.

This will be the LAST time, and three years from now the whole NYS pistol permit system will be history.

Just curious, did you wait to be notified that you had to renew your permit or did you do it on your own earlier than needed? My wife's and my CCW renewals are due in August 2026.

I was a couple of months late for recertification last year. Crickets. YMMV

So recertification with the State is required every 3 years. We were notified by the NYSP before our 1st Recertification was due but we received no reminders before our 2nd recertification was due. (We completed our most recent recertification a few days early and our next recertification due date is now based on 3 years from the earlier date. We set reminders at 34 months, 35 months, and 35 months 3 weeks on our calendars)

What Counties require a periodic permit renewal above and beyond the State mandated 3 year recertification?

Re-certified for my wife and I this past weekend. All of the listed pistols were correct, but my address was our previous address (we moved 1.5 years ago) and my county was still listed as the previous county. Same for her, but her home address was completely wrong. Apparently some kind of transcription error - along the lines of 123 Narme St instead of 123 Main St. Dunno what happened there, the address was correct the last time we re-certified.

I was surprised they didn't have my new address, we transferred our permits to the new county right before we moved, got new cards, the works.

Just curious, did you wait to be notified that you had to renew your permit or did you do it on your own earlier than needed? My wife's and my CCW renewals are due in August 2026.

The wife and I set a calendar / reminder date one week before renewal on our phones. I would not rely on any kind of reminder from the state gestapo.

We'll probably do the same thing.

I recertified recently and had to add a gun that had not made it to them yet, but on my permit.

Got a recert # and saved it.

I also recertified my AWL and that seemed to be instant....printed out the AWL

There was a slight delay .... Did it myself.
