Pistol permit renewal is a PIA

So I went through the first time and missed the have you had your permit transfer and have you been known by any other name and submitted it. You can’t go back so it said try again. I hit that and it said too many attempts and deleted form. Next time I get through everything all serial numbers and pistol info added except last one and I accidentally hit submit. I go back to modify what was missing and click on the last gun for caliber and it says too many attmempts you have to wait a period of time. I’m sure everything o just entered is deleted again. This is a PIA and makes me hate NYS even more. FUNYS.

3rd times a charm. Went fine no hiccups at all. Done. Now just waiting for my blessing.
Reminder to all save at each step as it doesn’t take out out of the spot you are in.

Also be aware of your new recertification date. Don’t recertify too early. My FIL does it right around the first of the year. I said what happens after 3-5 times you’ll be into the previous year. Too much of a PIA to keep track of. I should have waited even a bit longer. Mine wasn’t due until 10/30 but I kept forgetting to check and do it. It was on my mind so I did it.

The law says every 5 years. You're due in 2023.

I thought I did it online. I need to get it squared away though. I just inherited a few guns, but probably won’t carry until I add it permit. I’m planning on retiring in 6 month, I still have stuff on my badge that I will probably transfer to permit.

I will check. If it is I will transfer everything to badge until retirement in 6 months. I’m planning on leaving NY State anyway within a year. Even if I stay , quite a few coworkers retired without getting a permit and just carry on retired creds/LEOSA. I think the benefit of the permit is that I can’t buy new handguns on retired creds. My permit was issue in Niagara County, but moved to Erie County 14 years ago. I thought I did the renewal on line, but nothing on my permit showing a recertification date. I was out of state half the year back when this recert was going into effect.

If you certified on the NYSP web page you should be good to go. There will not be anything on your card. You can input your data on the page and it should say when your recertification date is due.

No problem. No one should even need a permit. The longer I have been in law enforcement, the more I am against gun control of any kind for law abiding citizens. I can’t wait to get out of this state.

should be no gun control / gun laws at all .. law abiding citizens or not .. when there not law abiding citizens just lock them up and loose the fkin key , knifes , baseball bats .. skate boards .. and the lists of tools of crime goes on and on ..

Got my letter today from NYSP, permanently moved from Chautauqua county 1 July 2020 to Florida. Thinking I may want to keep the NY permit for shits and giggles . . .

Not an expert, but I dont think you can have a NYS permit as a non-resident.
