Got back a little while ago from the class at the Dutchess County Pistol Association. The class was from 6-9. There were 12 of us IIRC. Ben and Sean were leading it. We did many live fire drills after some dry fire. The class felt longer and not in a bad way. They packed a lot in during the 3 hours.
I have had my permit for 11 years. Prior to the UnSafe Act I did some classes and joined a shooting range with my boys. After the UnSafe Act I lost my desire and with the insane ammo prices over the years I didn't shoot or practice. It probably has been about 6 years or so that I fired a pistol. Well, it definitely showed. It was a frustrating evening for me mentally but I shouldn't have expected anything different. At one point Ben asked me what sports/activities I do and I mentioned biking. He asked how often I ride and I said 1-2 times a week. He then asked me how would I ride if I did it every 6 years instead. I pointed to my target and said, "It would be like that." My skills are where they should be for the amount of training I have done over the years. I did have better results towards the end of the evening but I have a lot of work to do. I'm angry at myself for letting things slack to the point they have.
Ben was such a good instructor. He is clear, concise and very efficient in the way he teaches. He breaks things down and demonstrates things so they make sense. He gets his points across very well. Oh yeah, he is one hell of a pistol shooter too. Same for Sean. I didn't have any ego going in and even so I walked away humbled. I realized just like with the Force on Force class how much I don't know and how much training I need. After all, what's the point of owning a firearm if you aren't proficient?
I will be doing much more consistent training from this point on. After I finish this post I am signing up for the same class again. I can't say enough about the experience I had this evening. You owe it to yourself and those around you to train. I would highly recommend doing it with @OnSight Firearms Training . Thanks for your help tonight Ben and Sean. Much appreciated.
