An excellent video that brings home just how little time a person has to deal with someone attacking with a knife. A cop was forced to shoot a woman who came after him with a knife. Unfortunately she was able to strike him a couple of times before he shot her.


Personally I think he should have shot her before she got that close to him but my guess is either department policies or fear of political repurcussions made him hold back until she actually started slashing him.

The crazy lady with the knife was a former georgetown basketball player so of course the usual crowd is insisting this is murder. I feel sorry for the poor cop.

That point was driven home at every training session we had for the 30 yrs I was in LE. Via various staged re-enacted vids, there were no body cams at the time.

First time I watched this vid, it started in the middle. Just watched the begining and that cop should have shot long before she touched him with that knife.

He did an ok job in this IMO. He let the suspect get way too close and should have shot her 10-15 further away. Also should have dispatched the situation if able to quicker. He should have been scanning for other threats as well. Easy to say sitting here.

The LEO was there to conduct a welfare check. There was no opportunity to frisk at all.
Although when she appeared with the knife (in the OP video), it was actually the second time she opened the door to him. The first time she closed it in his face. If anything that would have been the moment to anticipate that she had retrieved a weapon and then create distance.

She was a mental health specialist. I guess no one is immune. But I wonder if he knew of her background and that it may have led to some complacency on his part?

Where does it say we have 6 feet to deal with a knife attacker? We have a duty to retreat but never heard the 6 foot rule.
