The only thing better than this would have been if the homeowner had done this with his own firearm.

Yes because in a sane world, you would be able to possess tools to defend your self from an home invasion .

No, because it highlights that ( alleged) criminals have weapons that citizens are denied.

Article does not mention if the dead guy had an illegal high cap mag ( over 10) , nor allude to his intent of being at the homeowner's abode.
Was it a drug deal gone bad , a church goer trying to steer the homeowner from a life of sin and towards the Lord, pizza delivery guy at wrong address.

I'm waiting to hear that the family of the deceased is suing the homeowner over the death of the "suspect" or theft of the gun.

NY state would at the least, press charges for having a firearm in the homeowner's possession.(not on his permit,even if he had one) We can't do a "show me yours and I'll show you mine"
