Yeah, that description sorta aligns with where the dems have put us as a society.
I like to leave a few piles of dog shit from my 200 pounds of pooches in my front yard to give those who feel the urge to invade my home a chance to reconsider. If that isn't a deterrent then I guess they'll become statistics since I don't know how to say "There's nothing in here worth dying for" in Spanish.

I doubt that an illegal , intent on invading your home would grasp the significance of giant dog shit landmines.

TL;DR - That should never happen, no one should be able to break into someone's home and not wake up the people in the home during the process of breaking in.

Layered home security is the correct answer. It starts with secure windows and doors and lighting. And then more layers added on top of that. Home security actually at some point became a hobby to me. Not a bad hobby to have IMHO.

On double sash windows the window locks aren't worth a damn (at least in my case) and can be broken without much work. There are ways to remedy that but one has to be aware of how that could be a weak point in the first place. Ask me how I know.

Years ago I locked myself out of my house like a dumbass, to make matters worse my wife was on vacation in AZ at the time and I didn't have an extra key ring stashed somewhere. My entry doors are reinforced and my only way in was through a window but I didn't want to want to break a window. So I used a pry bar and pried up on the lower sash until the window lock broke. (Only one lock on this particular small window, that's why I picked that one.)

Even though the pressure on the window frame from prying up on it caused the window to crack in the bottom corner. It wasn't loud (probably not enough to wake me up) and I discovered a weakness in my security plan. Now someone is going to have to actually make noise and break glass to get in through a window.

My window lock was pretty easily defeated and I should have been on top of that so I'm just giving a heads-up.

Dogs are a game changer, even the little yappy dogs are better than nothing. An early warning system if nothing else.

I have dogs that are not nice dogs is the smartest way for me to put it. The one is like a 12ga. with the safety off. They're never inside the house but the gate on their kennel can be opened from inside the house. That will not go well for anyone who's outside trying to break in, and if they do get in, well, it's still not going to go well for them. In Minecraft.

I couldn't imagine living in a home knowing some criminal(s) could gain entry if I was sleeping without me knowing it by the time they got one foot inside at the very worst. And I live in a low-crime area, almost non-existent when it comes to break-ins.

I think I'm sort of on topic, IDK, maybe not.

By the way, if you actually have a dog or dogs to be aware of. A "beware of dog" sign is a bad idea, my lawyer clued me into that many years ago. I'm just saying.

A dog is a good alarm. They are not a weapon.

The dog should warn of the danger, for *you* to do something about it.

Ours did just that about a rattlesnake on the back porch last night.

They can most certainly be a force multiplier with certain kinds of dogs.
I'm talking more about temperament/disposition than a certain breed to a point.

Dogs are alarms, deterrents and an amazing first line of defense. They will alert you, put the fear of God into the perps and if the house is breached, protect it and you with their lives. Yet more reasons I prefer dogs to most people!

If the dog can handle it by themselves it was a nuisance not a threat.

Plus, I would never want to put my dog in danger.

Before I met her, my wife had a large Rottweiler. One night the dog was going nuts and my wife thought someone was breaking in.

She grabbed her 12ga and locked the dog in her crate "so she wouldn't get in the line of fire" LOL.

I really lucked out when I found her.

My two dogs are 175lb and 125lb respectively. The male, Ruger - will bark his fool head off, deep and loud - even though he thinks everyone at the house is there to see him. Enough to ward anyone off though. The female, Remington, had a very high, shrill bark and she's a lot more nervous and distrustful initially - and her pitch is like fingernails on a blackboard sometimes. The sound alone is enough to wake the dead, and not a pleasant one for an intruder. So the combo is enough to even keep family away

I've been looking for those! Recently got this for the end of the driveway though.

I figure 'no trespassing' implies you may deal with the consequences.

The former implies your loved ones will be left to deal with the consequences.

We have 2, 12lbs. Dachshunds, so I could throw one while retrieving a weapon, that are in arms length most of the time. The dogs are normally in a lap if not in their bed.

It’s still debated how and why we (Homo sapiens) outcompeted the Neanderthals. One piece of that prehistoric puzzle may be that we domesticated dogs, and they didn’t. This could have given us a critical edge both in hunting and domestic safety.

LOL, nah, I no longer eat the same animals that I have raised. I grew up on a family farm and back then it was just something we did. Since then I have had a change of ways, I no longer eat the same animals that I have given feed. I have other options available to me now.

Nowadays I go to the store to get chicken, even though I have a bunch of those assholes right here... Doh! I don't even like eggs, the wife and my neighbors sure do though.

I just put some chicken nuggets in the toaster oven and got the BBQ sauce out of the refrigerator. It's not BBQ chicken but it will work for now.
