What is cops fascination with disarming a person that willing admitted to LEGALY carrying a firearm?
Officer safety? I would think the cop standing outside the car with the 'badguy' inside would the safest, have you ever tried to draw and fire from setting inside a car? It's not easy! (I'm not talking about having the gun in your lap and POW as soon as the cop walks up).
I've told cops I'm armed and most of the time all was good, one guy was a total ass and we had to get his boss involved, lectures about gun ensued yeah yeah yeah I don't care.

I've dealt with that scenario 2 times. I detail them here just to show how different things can be around the US.

Here in NC (where you are legally required to notify LEO's if stopped or interacted with), I was stopped for a possible traffic infraction. I immediately informed him; he asked for a copy of my NY CCW permit, and he told me to just leave my handgun holstered. I did. No harm, no foul, - and no traffic ticket either. Even complimented me on my collection listed on my permit! Funny, but down here in NC, they issue paper permits without even a picture on them. No need to list the handguns you own either. And the cops here are quite chill.

Back in New Yorkistan, while on my own property (and NOT having threatened or menaced anyone), cops showed up and demanded to know if I was carrying. And I was, legally, under an Unrestricted CCW permit, with my EDC in my right front pocket. Told me that he was seizing it (for "officer safety"), and that if I was not arrested, that I would get it back at the conclusion of the call. First time I was ever frisked, and had a cop reaching into my pocket to seize my gun. Somewhat nerve wracking, I will say. I guess I should be glad he didn't shoot me like this cop did! Then, as soon as he had my gun, he got right up in my face and gave me a raft of shit, - "nobody but cops or military should have guns...", and on and on... "no one needs a 2nd Amendment Right". Yelled in my face, saying “what the fuck was wrong with me that I felt the need to carry a firearm”. He didn't like it when I then reminded him that it was my right, and I then told him that he must suck at his job, because when he frisked me, his missed my spare magazines (in a pouch that could have been a second handgun...). I didn't bother to get into it with him that I actually was ex-military, and a former Navy SAT team member who regularly carried a full auto M14 and a 1911 on duty.

They did give me my M&P Shield 9mm back at the end of the call, albeit in pieces and with the magazine unloaded. And later, the OPPD Chief of Police went to the Erie County PPO to demand that my CCW be revoked because "I had the audacity to carry extra ammunition for my handgun on me!" Actually had my handguns seized, and had to hire a lawyer and go to court to get them returned to me 6 months later.
