The first time in these United States of America non-land owning people, woman and blacks voted for their collective (I love that Democrat word) future was in 1838 at High Mount Ulster County NY.
5000 ordinary citizens met on that hill to vote yea/nay if they would fight the landed gentry/Democrats whom, collectively, owned the land these people cleared, farmed, raise their families on.
The root of the problem was the Democrats had Land Grants from The King Of England and was still collecting rent on the land after England lost OUR Revolutionary War.
This became The Anti-Rent War
This was a REACTION to Democrats.
The situation had to become untenable for these tenants to react to the Democrats.

!845 The Anti-Rent War had a seminal moment, a Sheriff got himself shot and ended up dying at a Sheriffs Land Sale on Dingle Hill Andes Delaware County NY.
This event cause more than 200 people to be arrested, by order of the Democrats in charge.
Many families fled persecution, many settled in the upper Midwest.
In 1854, two men from Dingle Hill Andes Delaware County New York and an Abolitionist Democrat walked into a Church in Ripon Wisconsin and Founded The Republican political Party.
The Republicans sole political plank, at the time, was stop Democrats slavery.
The situation had to become untenable for these tenants to react to the Democrats.
The Republican Party was Founded as a REACTION to the Democrats.

Republicans want to be left alone and in turn, We The People will leave 'you people' alone.

You describe the original Republican leaders and most of the current party members well.

But, not the ones living inside the beltway. They are part of the same machine the original (and current) Democrats are.

The difference is that machine is a lot smarter about manipulating the masses than they used to be. They now have the masses divided and at each others throats via the simple deception of pretending they are both sides of this issue.

The real war is "the people" vs "the swamp", but the swamp is very good at setting "the people" against each other so that they can continue to prey on them.
