The "Border" war in Missouri (pronounced "MaZurAh", bitches) is instructive on what any future ideological war will look like.

Thomas Goodrich is very good on this - in particular "Black Flag" and "Bloody Bill Anderson" - yes, "Bloody Bill" was real..and one of the nastiest "border ruffians".
