Our Bill of Rights, the first 10 Amendments to OUR Constitution was fought for at our 2nd Continental Congress by Elbridge Gerry, a signer of OUR Deceleration Of Independence, and others.
Gerry and others refused to sign OUR Constiutaion until James Madison clearly spelled out what OUR new Government COULD NOT do.
Gerry, pronounced Gary, was labeled "The Republican", later became 'famous' for redrawing his district lines to ensure his reelection.
On politician remark Gerry's new district looked like a salamander, to which a cartoonist coined the phrase Gerrymandering (Gary rhyming with sali).
The Gerry family still owns property in my Town, Andes/Bovina/Delhi, a direct deed transfer from The King of England to The Livingston Family and then a Livingston daughter marrying a Gerry son.



So there is that.
