Power and control over a voting populace that's dependent on the SS to survive, and fearful losing what little they have, so as they demonize Republicans as "wanting to take your Social Security away" they capitalize on the fear they created to keep them both voting and in-line, which keeps the Demoncrats in power...this IS the culmination of a long term plan.
