When I first got interested in "survival" (now called Prepping) back in the 80's everyone clamored about how the Dollar was going to collapse any day now, Russians were going to be dropping out of Planes, Natural Disaster, Man-made disaster, civil war, et.al and at the crux of every preparation and Talk Show Sponsor was the encouragement and fear mongering to buy Gold and Silver...Nothing wrong with owning what you can afford to put away, and it wasn't that many years back that spot on Gold was ~$1K where it's closer to two now; problem now is finding it and affording it...I hope that Trump is re-elected and inflation (spot prices) go back down, but I doubt it'll go back to 2020 or 2016 levels as too many will loose their asses between what they paid and what it's worth.
As far as an EO demanding Gold be surrendered: There are always those that'll comply, and back then the People TRUSTED the Government and the Countries Leaders...now we'll make that shit disappear, especially if you don't know we have it in the first place.

The only real problem with gold and silver is, it relies upon the "bigger idiot" theory. That being there will always be someone willing to give you more than what you paid for it. But, the fact remains that you cannot eat it, it will not provide you shelter, it does not generate heat or electricity, it will not protect you or hunt, and it does not provide transportation.

Food, water, shelter, clothing, various types of fuel, and defensive implements are the necessities.

Oh, and the Government tells you to buy whatever they WANT you to buy.
