Polymer80 80% Glock

I was just browsing around and stubmled upon this. Was wondering what people thought of it. After readinga bit it seems the rails plastic however.

I have been eyeballing one since the earlier mechtech thread. Trying to wrap my head on how to use it to build a UNsafe act compliant carbine using the mechtech along with it.

The Mechtech carbine sounds like a good idea. I might have to snag one of these eventually, pretty neat that it comes with all the bits and the jig.

You'd have to cut the grip off and shape it similar to this in order to have a carbine with no pistol grip.

The stock lower has metal rails on a plastic frame. This 80 percent would have plastic rails on a plastic frame.

I'm no engineer but I would imagine that longevity would be compromised after repeated friction from the metal slide riding on the plastic rails.

You have to think,what is the real purpose of this? is it just to say I finished machining this firearm, or other less then honorable reasons. Do we have enough trouble, is this a so called ghost gun.

Nope. It is an entertaining hobbyist project for law-abiding citizens who live in the United States.

When you complete projects like this, you improve your skills with regards to handling tools and troubleshooting mechanical items. That makes you better able to maintain your other firearms.

If I lived in the United States, I'd try finishing one of these lowers....just for fun. But, sadly, I reside in The People's Republic of New York.

They are legal if you put it on your permit.

I can't disagree more about using these for less than honorable means. I thinks more honorable to have a means to protect your family that the government doesn't know you have.

Didnt we have a thread recently about a member who wanted to add pistols he already owned out of state to his permit and the general consensus was he needed to get 2 FFLs involved to do it ?

The original poster was not asking about moving weapons from an out-of-state in-state, talking about building his own. All you have to do is fill out the paperwork and bring it in there. I was suggest that you do not have a firearm finished before you add it to your permit has to not get yourself in trouble but it should not be a problem.

Certainly you would need to add it before completing it to remain legal, but if you can't add an out of state pistol without 4 bureaucrats and a priest, how do you add one that doesn't exist yet easier ?

Couldn't you follow the "soon to be completed" procedure for a "soon to be imported" pistol ?

The reason the other way is harder, is because most Ffl will not except a pistol from out of state from a private individual.

They are two different things. And neither one of them is very difficult. if the pistol already exists then you're forced to use an ffl because otherwise you would be in possession of an illegal pistol in New York.

While if you manufactured a pistol in New York it wouldn't be such a big deal.

Again, it's not all that hard to do. But your scenarios are like comparing apples and oranges. They are different.

And the general consensus of Internet individuals have no bearing on what really takes place. I am not saying that An ffl was not required, but you would have to hear that directly from the issuing agents mouth.

The above example may have been able to be done by the joy I'm so again I say hey. I've never looked into it. I don't ever foresee having to do it, so I'm not even going to ask my licensing bureau.
