.475 A&M Magnum
I reload, but I don't think Mek is too enamored over that cartridge. Right now the components are pretty cheap.

I think the 350 is a better idea if you're not planning on reloading.
Paging @meketrefe for better details than I can relate here
I reload everything, I wrote that above.
A custom 358 Legend barrel will open new possibilities.
I would say 18" minimun 19 or 20" better. 100gr and 120gr bullets are good for average white tail. But I would not buy the grendel and insteas the 6.5LBC (les baers) chamber that is more accurate by desing due to the better throat and leade angle. What’s the word on 6.5 Grendel?
That’s awesome thanks. This might be the one. I initially wasn’t interested in it but then I read more.
Bullet selection for the 6.5 is good enough for paper but not as great for hunting. The same case in 6mm gives a lot more options and balance and in terms of affordability the 6x45 or 6mm TCU are hard to beat with virtually free or dirt cheap 5.56 brass. The bullet selection and cheap brass would make this more ideal IMO for rolling your own.
As of now, I don't see much point in reloading for the 350 legend unless you go the custom barrel route. Still...I'm seriously considering adding an upper in 350. Just...because...

The 6mm offers the 500 mstch bullets value packs like the 233 ones sometimes even cheaper something not available in 6.5mm.
Another great simple option, that like the 6x45 uses 5.56 bras is the 6.5 TCU that with a tad extra freebore can match the grendel but cheaper to reload. It will require a modified magazine or a 350 legend mag that do not have the front rib so they stack w/o problems.
The 6x45 and 6tcu do not require anything and they are as easy or even more to reload than the 223 itself. The 6x45 is so forgiviging and accurate that I started to think one could piss inside the case and still produce half inch moa.
no prob. Better keep it an open thread in the reloading section so others can follow ideas, discussion...I inherited my equipment and If I ever get the time and space to start rolling my own, I'll PM you for ideas.
I too bought PRI mags. They are solid.I am entering the 68 rabbit hole now. Went with PRI mag because of the overwhelming positive opinions.
Why not go 18” and keep the rifle length gas system? I would definitely recommend an adjustable gas block as AR308s tend to be over gassed.
There will be very little weight difference in the 16 and 18 inch barrels but, the performance/reliability will be better and the abuse on the system will be less. You can get carbon fiber Handguard which will save more weight than 2 inches of barrel would.I’m trying to shed weight. It’s either sell the AR10 and build a Grendel or re-configure the AR10 and keep it.

Yes and a rifle length gas system. When you say performance/reliability will be better you mean by sticking with the 18”?
If you want to get rid of weight by changing a barrel buy a Carbon Fiber Barrels | USA | BSF Barrels . They are excellent barrels and burned a ton of weight off my RPR 6 creedmoor.Hmm... so what about shortening my AR10 instead? How’s .308 out of shorter barrels? I’ll switch out the A2 stock for a much lighter one and rebuild the upper with a 16” barrel.
@Airborneguy ... If you decide you want to try the Grendel, come up to the 12550. I have a 12, 16, and 18" MSR and 20" bolt action you can try out.
If you decide you like the Grendel, I have a 16" upper available for sale.
