I've used .38 bullets in a revolver that were treated with Nylon. Can't say they made a heck of difference.

-cheaper than fmj
-easier to load than lubed lead
-cleaner shooting
-you can push them faster then lead
-no exposed lead

Miles I agree with everything except pushing them faster than lead. Powder coated, polymer coated and even copper plated should be loaded the same as lead.
Kind of true there's been a big push lately with people loading them to jacketed speeds. With that said you need to start with a lead load numbers and work yourself up. Ill try to look up a thread on cast boolits that people were push rifle rounds to fmj speeds successfully.

The coated are usually cheaper, don't smoke, different styles/contours and with the many different available colors, you can use a different color to differentiate rounds that have different power factors or OAL.
Many steel shooters compete with pistol chambered carbines and load them hot for 100% function.
Those rounds would be very hot in a pistola, so it's an easy way to keep from blowing your guns up. or not having them function during a match.
