Deplorable Me
.700 Nitro Express
I have a vintage RCBS powder meter. I'm currently using Bullseye powder. Powder is about 2 years old.
As the powder level goes down, I noticed the powder sticking to the side of the reservoir (green plastic) and the side walls of the metal at the meter chute. I thought it was static electricity, no. When I touched the side walls the walls were ever so slightly filmy and they felt like oil. The powder was sticking to this film. The slick feel could have been graphite which is sometimes used to coat powders. When the powder hit the pan it didn't stick to the pan, or the powder funnel.
When the reservoir was empty I swiped it with my finger, I could feel the tack but fingers came out clean.
I proceeded to dry-wipe out the reservoir with a clean paper towel. I pulled out maybe .5 grains of powder. Then I lightly wet a paper towel with rubbing alcohol. I was able to remove a light grey-black film. It still felt not normal so I wet a paper towel with Simple Green and the reservoir cleaned out really nice. The walls cleaned up and the paper towel was also lightly black-grey.
Whenever I switched powder previously (332, 335, Varget, 231, Unique, Green Dot) I've never had residual powder stick to the wall. I'd dry wipe the chamber and shake out any stray grains that got caught in any nook and cranny.
Anyone else ever experience this?
